Since you said you have a short bed that means you need a slider hitch. My favorite slider hitch is the automatic sliding hitch by Demco part # DM8550034. Unlike most sliding hitches that require you to get out and activate the slider mechanism every time you need to make a sharp turn this one slides automatically as you make the turn. This will work great on truck beds that are larger than 6 feet. This hitch has an 18k capacity.
If you have a bed length that is shorter than 6 feet you have to go with the version of this hitch that slides 22-1/2 inches. For that you would want the part # DM8550040. This hitch has a capacity of 13k.
