Is it Possible to Tow a Fifth Wheel Trailer with 2015 Ford F-150 5-1/2 foot Bed

Question:

I have a 2015 f 150 5 1/2 sb truck I also have a 91 prowler fifth wheel camper I believe it aprox 25 ft just over 8 ft wide with the tongue aprox 8-10 in past front . If the calculation is right i need about 4ft 6 in clearance. I have a husky reciever that came with the camper and I just purchased a pullrite superglide 16 K .I keep getting different answers and Im getting frustrated. Someone please tell what is the best way to do this.

The quick answer to your question is that you won't have enough clearance to make tight turns with your current slider hitch since your truck bed 5-1/2 feed in length. There's basically only two solutions for towing a fifth wheel trailer with a bed that short. One is the Demco Hijacker 13k part # DM8550040 as it's the only slider hitch that can move back 22-1/2 inches.

If you had a set of industry standard style rails already you would be good. But otherwise you'd need the part # # DM8552028-71 which is custom fit for your truck.

The other solution is to go with a stationary hitch and a Sidewinder pin box. This is the preferred method. It moves the pivot point back 22-1/2 inches which give you the needed clearance.

Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one.

There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer.

Once you figure out which pin box you have you can check the FAQ I attached that has a chart that shows the correct Sidewinder to get based on which pin box you have.
