Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2017 Ram 3500 Crew Cab

Question:

With how tall the Revolver X2 sits when it is rolled up against the cab window, do you think that would interfere when I am making sharp turns with the fifth wheel? If so, do you think I might be better off with the Bakflip?

I have a couple of different options for your 2017 Ram 3500 Crew Cab. Your truck has a bed height of just over 20 inches so I will recommend some 5th wheel hitches that are adjustable to under 3 inches of that 20 inch mark that you're looking for.

The most economical option for your Ram is the Curt E16 5th Wheel Hitch # C16115 with the Curt Base Rails # C16430-204. This features the Slide Bar Jaw to secure your king pin and has a Gross Towing Weight of 16,000 lbs.

The next step up is the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3255 with the B&W Base Rails # BWRVK2605. This hitch uses the dual jaws to secure your king pin. This gives your jaw-to-king pin 360 degree contact which will help reduce rattling and chucking. This 5th wheel hitch has a Gross Towing Weight of 18,000 lbs.

The best option for your 3500 Ram is the Demco Hijacker Premier Series 5th Wheel Hitch # DM6076P-21K and Base Rails # DM8552026-71. The reason I like this one the most is because it uses a single jaw lock which provides 360 degree contact with your king pin which will help limit rattle and chucking and is a little more smooth than the dual jaw lock. Along with the single jaw hook is the locking bar which will add some more security while towing. It has 4 different height settings and has a Gross Towing Weight of 21,000 lbs.

If you don't already have a tonneau cover and if you have a bed without the RamBox then I recommend using the BAK Revolver X2 # BAK39213. It is a hard cover and locks when you have your tailgate shut.

I have included some demonstration videos for you as well.

My contact at BAK Industries said that when the Revolver is rolled up, on your 6 foot 4 inch bed, that it sits about 8 inches high. He said that you should have no problems with it at all especially since the width of the Revolver is less than the width of your truck bed and he recommended the Revolver over the BAKFlip when you're using a 5th wheel hitch. The way you can double check to make sure that your trailer will not come in contact is to figure out the height at which your 5th wheel hitch is going to sit, then measure how tall your pin box is. If that measurement puts the overhang of your trailer 8 inches above your truck bed then you are good to go.
