Adapter For A 2011 Chevrolet 3500 Factory Brake Controller With Dexter Hydraulic Trailer Brakes

Question:

I have a 2011 Chevy 3500 HD and recently purchased a Big Tex 25GN HD with Dexter E/H brakes. The Big Tex dealer failed to mention to me that this trailer would not be compatible with my truck. With that aside, I keep seeing mention of this after market brake controller # 90885. What if I do not want to install an after market controller on my truck? Is the Titan Brakerite SD Adapter the solution to my problem? I would much rather keep the factory controller and have a plug in play as opposed to switching controllers.

Unfortunately we are not aware of an adapter for Dexter hydraulic brakes with a factory brake controller in a 2011 Chevrolet 3500. The Adapters for the Titan Brakerite are specifically for their Brakerite actuator and are not compatible with other actuators. Similarly, Hydrostar makes an adapter for their actuators, but Dexter does not yet.

The best recommendation I can give you is an aftermarket brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional, # 90885, you mentioned. This is an excellent proportional brake controller that will allow communication with your Dexter electric over hydraulic brake actuator on your trailer. I've attached a video of this installation.

The other option would be to trade out your hydraulic brake actuator and use the adapter. For disc brakes that would be the # T4813102 or the parts # T4813102 with the reducer # T4844100 for drum brakes. The adapter would be the # T4845900.
