Brake Controller and Wiring Harness for 2014 Ford E-250 Van Not Pre-Wired For Trailer

Question:

Looking at installing trailer brake controller and trailer wiring hookup on a 2014 ford E 250 van. Your products look great except being told by rv shops that only Ford parts can be used because of the onboard computers that control all electrics of the van and tapping into any of the van wiring could destroy the computers. I do not think this van was prewired for trailer hookup. Any info would be helpful

We carry all the parts that you would need to install a brake controller and wiring for your 2014 Ford E-250 van. These parts include a wiring kit that you can use to connect your tail, brake, and turn singles for your trailer without cutting or splicing into the existing wires.

Curt makes a 2014 Ford Van T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56020. The Curt T-connector allows you to attach a 4-way flat trailer connector without harming the existing wires. This connecting harness for the tail, brake, and turn lights are the only wires that are connect to the van's internal wiring, but there is no cutting or splicing as it is a plug-in harness. All other wiring will be separate from the van's internal wire and are wired directly to the brake controller and the battery.

Once the flat 4-way kit is installed on your van, you will have to install the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7. The kit allows you to use a 4-way flat connector and the 7-way for use of a brake controller. The Curt 4-way kit you will install fits in to the back if the adapter from this kit. The other wires are to be wired in to the brake controller, to the battery(through the use of circuit breakers), and to ground.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 and the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 3034-P. The Primus IQ activates immediately and adjusts the trailer's braking based on the tow vehicles deceleration. The Primus IQ has a nice LED display for easy reading and can be positioned anywhere up to a 90 degrees in installation.

I have attached a review video of the brake controller and a videos on installing the Curt harness, # ETBC7 kit, and brake controller.
