Erickson Big Bed Junior Load Extender for carrying a canoe
Question:
Is this a good product for me for a canoe? EM07605 I have a 2013 2500 Suburban, and I am planning to use this for the canoes up top. It will be mounted on the front receiver, The canoes needs to be farther forward to be clear of the Travel Trailer. I also plan to use a dual receiver in front to accommodate the bike rack. I would love to hear your thoughts.

The Erickson load extender # EM07605 is a gread extender. I would strongly recommend using an substantial anti-rattle device when using a load extender like this because they do tend to move quite a bit. For an anti-rattle device I recommend # BX88224 because it reduces/eliminates movement vertically and horizontally.
A dual hitch receiver is not recommended because it will reduce the vertical load capacity of the front mount hitch by 50 percent not to mention it is going to push the load extender and the bike rack pretty far out in front of the vehicle. Also the bike rack will have to extend out at least 12 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of its upright mast to clear the load extender.
A better option would be to carry the bikes elsewhere such as on the trailer by using the Bike Bunk # CC-275. The only things to consider with this product is its capacity at 100 pounds and the bike rack has to be rated for use on a trailer (not all bike racks are). I have included a link to the bike racks that are approved for this application.
