Weight Distribution With Sway Control For Jayco Camper With C-Channel Trailer Frame
Question:
Hi Trailer is a 1206 Jayco at 2650 unloaded weight and approx 350 tongue weight. TV is a 2011 Sienna V6 Fwd rated for 3500lbs. Trailer A-frame is c-channels. Have a proseries class 3 on. Reading through the QandAs, I see recommendations for an rp66151 over the PS49901 due to the Sienna sitting naturally low. However I also read on your site that the clamps from the 66151 kit will only work with a closed channel a-frame and not on c-channels. Kind of stuck. What WDK do you recommend for my set-up? Or would you go with balloons + anti sway? Thanks!

I called a couple of our suppliers for weight distribution and they told me that as long as the clamps for the spring bars are secured evenly, there would be no problem at all using a system like part # RP66151 on your Jayco camper with the c-channel frame. You can place a block of wood to fill the gap and create a more secure base when installing a clamp system like the one found on part # RP66151. This system will provide more ground clearance than a round bar system where the spring bars and chains sit closer to the ground.
The # RP66151 system has sway control built in so it helps when passing large trucks and in high wind to keep the camper on the road. The system has a tongue weight capacity of 200 to 600 lbs. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of the trailer when it is loaded and ready to tow added to the weight of any cargo placed behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle.
Since the hitch ball is sold separately I recommend part # A-90 for a 2-inch hitch ball and part # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.
