Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a Heavy Boat Trailer with C-Channel Frame

Question:

I need to find a Weight Distributing hitch for a Ameritail boat trailer. I contacted Ameritrail and it was as if I was speaking Chinese. It was as if they had never heard of WD hitches and were of little help. To be legal with my trucks capabilities my boat and trailer loaded is about 13,000lbs. I need to find a WD hitch that works on c-channel trailers. I have electric over hydraulic brakes - not surge brakes. It just seems as most WD hitches are intended to connect to smaller trailers - the beams on my trailer Id guess are 10inch tall. Any suggestions?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.

Based on the weight of your trailer you will need a higher rated system, something like the # RP66130 could work as long as your tongue weight fell within it's range, 800 lbs - 1,500 lbs. If you need a higher rating the # RP66075 goes up to 1,700 lbs of tongue weight.

The lift brackets included would work on a c-channel frame as well. For a shank you would want the # RP54970.
