Can an Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator be Ran Dry Temporarily.
Question:
On my trailer I recently had a brake line get a hole in it from rust. Do these type actuators have a way to protect them from burning up when this happens? I turned my controller all the way to 0 but just wondering if there is any way to check the actuator without buying a new one before I replace the lines. If the actuator is bad I will probable switch the system to straight electric do the cost. I have plenty of braking power from the truck

If an electric over hydraulic actuator is temporarily ran dry it will be just fine. We have spoke with our contacts at Dexter and Hydrastar and they have said that they have ran their actuators dry before and never had a problem with them once they refilled them.
You'll want to refill the system and then bleed the brakes as soon as you can.
