Too Much Sway while Towing a Bike Rack and Using a Hitch Adapter

Question:

I recently purchased a new Hidden Hitch for my Honda Pilot. I had originally ordered a Draw Tight, but as they were out of stock your CSR called and offered the more expensive Hidden Hitch p/n 87454for the same price but to be shipped immediately. I gladly accepted. It installed easily per your instructions. Nice work! However, I also ordered the Hitch Adapter, HT02. It arrived at the same time as the hitch. It was by no means as acceptable. When ed into the 2 opening on the Hidden Hitch, the amount of play was at least 1/16 on each side. When I ed my Yakima bike rack, the adapter was so loose, it caused the bikes and the rack to sway as much as 8 each way. Making turns with a full complement of bikes was a very scary situation. This is totally unacceptable. Please advise how I can return the adapter and obtain something that fits.

I am glad to hear the hitch installation went smoothly, but sorry to hear you are unhappy with the adapter. When using adapters, the play you are experiencing is a common problem. When using accessories in a trailer hitch, sometimes they are a perfect fit, sometimes they are a little loose and other times they are so tight that you must file the accessory down a bit.

Because, there is not always a perfect fit, there are anti-rattle devices made. You may have noticed that your Yakima bike rack already has an anti-rattle device built into its shank (the threaded bolt). An anti-rattle device you could use on the 2 inch receiver end is # SR25219. If you still choose to return the adapter, you can do so for a credit. We could not guarantee that you would not have the same problem with a replacement or with a different brand. I will email a return goods authorization and return instructions in a separate email. Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with.
