How Does B&W Silencer Pad BWTS35020 Install

Question:

I just purchased BWTS10048B for my 2016 F-150, along with a silencer pad to deal with the inevitable rattle. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out what the pad is supposed to do. It is too thick to fit in the space between the receiver and the hitch , and sliding it onto the hitch doesn’t accomplish anything. What am I missing?

The B&W Silencer Pad # BWTS35020 is intended to be placed on the shank of one of their Tow & Stow Multi-Ball Mounts like # BWTS10048B so that it acts like a gasket between the collar on the end of the hitch's receiver tube and the forward-facing surface on the ball mount. You'll see this in the linked customer photo.

The exact placement of the hitch pin hole on a hitch and on a ball mount can vary slightly from brand to brand and model to model and my contact at B&W did say that a few of their customers have noted the need to trim the Silencer's thickness to get a good fit with their specific combination of ball mount and hitch. Do note that the Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount # BWTS10048B does have a second hitch pin hole and using that other hole may give you the needed clearance.
