Can Underbody Panel be Left Off to Install a Trailer Hitch for a Bike Rack on a 2012 Toyota Camry
Question:
Looking at the Curt C12107 for our 2012 Toyota Camry SE. Our Camry does have the undercover panel as shown on your video. I am going to attempt to install this myself. Is there any reason I cant just leave the underbody panel off during installation? Seems like trimming the panel and trying to fit it back would be a time consuming hassle and I already have doubts about my ability to install this hitch for our bicycle rack. If I order the hitch from you and decide installation is above my skill set, do you make recommendations for local installers?

Yes, you can remove and leave off the underbody panel on your 2012 Toyota Camry when installing a trailer hitch. It does not have to go back on. But if you want it to then it does have to be trimmed.
For a trailer hitch I actually recommend Draw-Tite hitch # 36540. The reason is that the Curt hitch is going to require the use of a stabilization strap, # 18050, when using the hitch for anything other than a trailer per Curt's warranty requirements. The Draw-Tite hitch costs less and it does not have the strap requirement.
I am confident that you can install the hitch yourself but if you decide to have it professionally installed let me know and I can recommend a place in your area for the installation. Or if you have a mechanic that you use regularly that is another option.
