Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2011 Toyota RAV4 for Yakima Fullswing Bike Rack

Question:

I have a 2011 Toyota Rav4 I am looking for a 2inch trailer hitch for a bike rack I notice the higher weight rated hitches say trimming and or removal of body panel required for installation the instructions do not show any removal of body panel What removal of body panel is required? I am looking at a Yakima 4 bike full swing bike rack. Would any hitch work with this bike rack? Or do I have to check with Yakima for recommended hitch. Is there any hitch that is better than others? thanks

There is a driver side appearance panel on some of the 2011 Toyota RAV4's, if your car has it, that will need to be removed to install a Class III hitch like the part # e98864. I attached a picture that shows it and has the attachment points for the panel circled. This is also mentioned in the attached installation instructions link on page 3 and shown on the install video attached.

This hitch would work well with the Yakima FullSwing part # Y02465. This bike rack is great because it allows you go have full access to the rear door of the vehicle even with bikes loaded as it can swing out and away.

If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Swagman Easy-Out Women's and Alternative Frame Bike Adapter # 64005 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. I attached a review video for this product also. This will allow the bikes to be carried more level and will provide more ground clearance.
