Can Longer Screws be Used when Installing Brophy Stake Pocket Tie Downs on a 2005 Ram 1500
Question:
I need longer lag screws to attach the TDSF to my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with 6 1/2foot bed. I bought some at Lowes and they just flattened the edge of screws and would not go into Brophy mounts. I tried FastenAll and they had nothing better. Where do I find quality bolts/screws that will work?

Expert Reply:
For your 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 and the Brophy camper tie downs # TDSF you will need hardware that is the right grade and for the right material (in this case steel) just longer than the included hardware. I recommend using grade 8 hardware. A hardware store should have higher grade hardware that you can use. It may be indicated and GR8 for grade 8. If you have no pre-drilled any holes for the hardware you may need to drill some small pilot holes so the hardware will bite.
