Installation of Trailer Hitch and Wiring on a 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara
Question:
I have a 2008 Suzuki Gran Vitara. I notice that the muffler is directly underneath the rear of the vehicle right in the area where a trailer rack would go. Is the class III unit for this vehicle clear the muffler? And with the wiring harness, does it snake up under the vehicle into the area of the cargo holders from underneath? Thank you

According to the directions, the Curt Class III Hitch # C13001 you were looking at will avoid contact with the muffler. It doesn't even mention anything about having to lower it while installing the hitch. It does tell you that the tow hook must be permanently removed and that you will have to trim your bumper fascia slightly.
On the Draw-Tite hitch # 75448, it's a little easier to see where the hitch installs. I've attached an image pointing out where the hitch brackets mount to the frame, it will mount in the same spot with the Curt hitch, with the exception that the Curt will use a third hole on each side.
The Curt Wiring # 56002, the wiring harness installs from inside the vehicle and will plug into a connection behind your tail lights. Then it will come out from the cargo area when you need it and be stored in the cargo area when not in use.
