Does Titan BrakeRite I Electric-Hydraulic Actuator # T4813102 Require a Brake Controller
Question:
I was wondering about the brake module on the Titan Brakerite I. It says that the accelerometer enables it to brake in proportion to the tow-vehicle braking. I was under the impression that most hydraulic/electric actuators like the Dexter and Actu-link used proportional braking to some degree. Am I correct? Is there another way the accelerometer module sets this Brakerite system apart from the others?

Expert Reply:
The Titan BrakeRite II Severe-Duty Electric-Hydraulic Actuator Kit # T4835700 does not actually have any type of accelerometer. You will need to use a brake controller compatible with electric over hydraulic actuators like the very popular P2 # 90885 which has an EOH setting with this system installed in your tow vehicle. This proportional brake controller has an accelerometer built into it to sense the correct amount of braking power to send to the trailer.
There used to be an RF version of this setup that had basically it's own brake controller, but it is no longer available.
