Troubleshooting 7-Way Harness Installation On 2007 Nissan Frontier With No Trailer Towing Package

Question:

My 07 Frontier SE came without the tow package so I purchased the trailer hitch, passenger kick panel relays and connectors, and a 7 pin wiring RV connection harness that just connects to the two connections underneath the left side of the trucks bed. I am planning on helping a friend move back from Monterrey Bay and want to haul a trailer that has electronic brakes so I also ordered a brake controller and the vehicle specific harness wire harness for it that has not yet arrived. I installed everything the way it was supposed to be and I wanted to test everything so i connected a my friends trailer to see if everything was in order and found that only the running lights worked. At first nothing was on but after a little while like a minute the running light came on but the brake, turning and even emergency signals did not work. I read on a forum that with an auto transmission i only need to install one of the included blue relays in the package not both since that would be for a manual. Is there something i am missing? Do I need to install anything under the hood like the Titans? I am a newbie to most of this and i need help!

On some Nissan vehicles there is a relay needed in the in-cab fuse panel to make it fully functional. You will want to check the owner's manual to find the locations of all the fuses and relays associated with tow package wiring. Even with all of the relays and fuses in place, you may have a bad one and it will need to be replaced. If you find there is a missing relay, then it should be one of the blue relays from the Curt Relay Kit # C57000.

If the lights on the trailer are not working, you will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and test the pins on the 7-Way on your Frontier to make sure all of the functions are working. Check the grounds at the lights and main trailer connector to make sure they are all attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.
