Video Transcript for Hopkins Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2023 Nissan Titan N40975

Hey, guys. It's Jake here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Hopkins 7 and 4-pole trailer connector. Today, we have a 2023 Nissan Titan, and this vehicle's actually equipped with the factory US car connector. It is tucked up right behind this bumper. If you reach back up in there, you can see it.

You can find it. And if you look right under here, you'll see I've got it pulled out. This is what is designed to connect to the 4 and 7-way plug. Now, there's two ways that you can connect this. One way is with the bracket that comes with the kit.

It'll just install like this, and you can, it clips into place and you can mount it up underneath your bumper like so if you want your connector to be down by your hitch. The Nissan Titan is actually equipped with this same shaped hole right behind this plastic bumper. We'll show you a quick clip of it back here, but if I feel up behind there, I can feel the exact indentation of this hole, which this plug is designed to fit. So, I would highly recommend and definitely what I would do is just trim that out from the back side, and then you can take this plug, connect it right into place and then plug your US car connector that comes from the factory directly into the back of it. Otherwise, if you don't and you want to use this bracket to mount it down here for a less invasive installation, you will have to get an extender or extend your wires on your US car connector 'cause we tried it a couple of different ways, and it will not mount very easily down here.

So, again, it's a cleaner installation if you install it up here and it'll give it a much more factory look. Most vehicles come with them up there. That's probably why that plug is back there, but it's really up to you however you want to install. Now, you can see this bracket back here. It is kind of coincides with the license plate bracket, but you can see the fitment is the same as that bracket that comes with our 7 and 4-pole.

It's much easier just to cut this out, cut the plastic out from this backside and then insert your plug from the front and you should be all good to go. You can see here what we're talking about. This plug is not quite long enough to reach out and to plug into the connector up under the bumper, but right here, it would fit perfect. Now, there's gonna be two different ways you can get this kit. You can get it with just the plug and the bracket, which is what we would need for this vehicle. If your vehicle does not have the factory relays, you will need to get the plug, the bracket and the three relays in order to get the 7-pole functions back to the back of the vehicle. We'll show you which relays they are so you can check whether or not you have the correct relays. The relays we're looking for are going to be your trailer tow, your trailer turn left hand, and your trailer turn right hand. That is going to be this brown fuse, this blue fuse and this blue fuse. As you can see, in the kit, we get a brown fuse and two blue fuses. But for our vehicle, we already have those. If you pop the hood of your vehicle, look in this panel, it's right next to the battery. Pop this lid off. If you have those three relays, just pick up the 7 and 4-pole plug and you're good to go. Plug it in and you can start towing a trailer. Well guys, hopefully this video helped you decide whether or not the Hopkins 7 and 4-pole connector is right for you and which kit is right for your 2023 Nissan Titan.

Product worked great had no power to the left turn signal after doing some research online found [online] video where there’s two hidden fuses near the steering column wiring harness and one head blown due to prior towing…. Supposedly only applies to 2004 2005 Nissan titans 2006 and later according to forums Nissan fixed it and put additional fuses and relays in the fuse block under the hood

Nissan

Although I have not installed it yet, it looks to be of good quality. As far as I can tell i think I will be able to mount it in the factory oem location in the bumper. Nissan doesn't sell the trailer plug separately from the factory hitch so this saved me lots of cash.

After having it on the truck for a year, its still working great. No issues.

Amazing wiring harness! Use my 6x12 utility trailer weekly, no problems at all. Installed in about 10 minutes. Will buy again!

Excellent customer service. Quick shipping. Easy installation. The video was clear and helpful. Could not ask for more from etrailer. Will order from them again.

Nice setup, everything worked well, easy install.

This plug was very easy to install. I was able to use the cutout in my bumper to install the plug and the harness on my truck plugged right into it. I didn't have to use the bracket that came with it. The relays were simple to install.
This is an awesome product.

Honda Pilot

The product was everything I needed minus an extra blue relay which I did not realize needed to be ordered additionally. I should have read the comments section of others who had ordered this and would have known ahead of time. I ordered the extra blue relay and once it arrives everything will be complete.

The installation was straight forward. Drilled some pilot holes for the bracket unto the bottom of the hitch cross bar. Used the supplied self tapping screws to mount the plate. Popped in the 7/4-Way Flat Vehicle End Trailer Connector, plugged the factory installed trailering plug into this, and the relays under the hood fuse box (marked by factory) and all worked perfectly. Need the extra blue relay for the under dash trailer wiring connection for driving lights to work on trailer. It is to the left of the steering column, mounted on a metal support bracket behind the plastic knee protector area. This same area is where you would plug in the e-brake connection if you wanted to add that.

Hope this helps.

Bought this hitch and the 7/4 way plug and relay kit for my daughter's Titan as a Christmas present. She was excited and wanted to install it herself. The products are great quality and the videos extremely helpful. I had her watch the videos, got out the 1/2 impact and cordless drill and turned her loose. With minor supervision and help she had it all installed in less than 45 minutes. The hitch bolted right on with the bolts provided. We did drill some pilot holes for the 2 self tapping screws provided for the 7/4 way plug bracket only because I was afraid we might dull one before it cut through. For anyone with a general knowledge of tools and their uses this project is a snap. I highly recommend these products.

Saturn Relay

received the connector and relays the relays installed very easy in the relay box located in the engine compartment, how ever the 7 way - 4 Way connector and bracket that the site recommends and shows an install did not work as the OEM connector that is located in the rear on the passenger side of the bed even cutting the connector wiring loose as recommended did not have enough length of wire to reach the installed bracket. I did notice that the Bumper from the rear has a cutout for this connector, but the plastic over cover on the bumper covers this cut out so I cut out the area using the bumper metal cutout as a guide then the connector snapped into the cutout and then the OEM Harness reach the connector with no problem, looks like it was Factory installed.

by:
2004 Nissan Titan

This Kit worked perfect for my 2004 Nissan Titan XE. Easy install, it attaches right to the factory harness. My truck only requires 2 of the relays because its a 2004. One blue and one brown.......
A note for anybody trouble shooting any power issues {blinkers or lights on trailer not working} there are 2 hidden fuses that were installed on most first generation Titans as a dealer recall. They are located in the wire harness bundle underneath the steering wheel. If either one of these are blown, you will need to replace for the trailer harness will work. Hope that helps.

I would definitely recommend this product !!!!!!

The product is great just as it is advertised. But the really wonderful part is Dana M.I knew what I wanted but the part number was a old one not in the system. She found what I needed, she is an asset to etrailer.com..Thanks

2010 Nissan Titan

Easy to install on my 2010 Nissan Titan. All I had to do was plug it into the factory wiring. The only problem I ran into was there is a third relay that needs to be installed for this to work properly. Without it all of the trailer lights worked except for the running lights. I took my truck into a Nissan dealer and they added the relay, somewhere under the dash.

2010 Nissan Titan

Ordered for new hitch install on '06 Titan. Put the hitch on first then realized I could have installed the plug mounting plate on the hitch bracket first and would have been easier. Regardless, still installed in about 10 minutes so no complaints. Fit perfectly and looks good too. Nice quality plug. Overall, very satisfied with purchase.

2006 Nissan Armada

Bought this for my 2006 Armada. Direct connection, no fuss. Worked absolutely perfectly for my non-factory tow package SUV.

Installed the plate onto my bumper with the provided sheet metal screws. Required a hole to be pre-drilled, which is super easy.

by:
2015 Nissan Titan

The product matched up mounting holes to the hitch I got so I was able to use some bolts and nuts I had to mount it to a plate in the new hitch. The factory 7 pin harness on my Titan plugged directly into the unit and it worked perfectly. Took about 5 minutes to install. Simple and easy.

by:
2013 Nissan Armada

Wow!!! From the time I opened the package to the time I was ready to hook up to the trailer was 13 minutes!!!! My '07 Armada needed the extra blue relay under the dash, but thanks to your forums and customer reviews I was prepared for that by the time the package arrived. I ordered on a Sunday night and even with a blizzard hitting your area of the US hard, I still had my parts by that following Friday morning!!! Bravo to all who put customer service #1that is something that seems to have been forgotten by many companies but obviously not etrailer.coms!!! Thank you for providing exactly the product that was described, and the service that you promised!!!! Sincerely, Jason, Missie, and Family

by:
2017 Nissan Titan

The product is excellent quality and functions as it should but I purchased it based on etrailers recommendation. The video etrailer shows is a little deceiving. The hitch, which I bought from etrailer as well, is not the same as the one in the video and the long mounting bracket only fits in one spot because the factory harness has so little slack in it. Don’t get me wrong, it works great but looks a little silly because it’s pointing away from the hitch.

by:

The products were quickly delivered and the order was fulfilled to my expectations. The products worked well with my new trailer break installation in real-time in highway conditions. I would recommend these to anyone.

  • Recommended Trailer Brake Controller For A 2005 Nissan Titan LE
If you do have the factory port for a brake controller then I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR along with the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # RED39FR. This brake controller is my number one recommendation because it's so easy to install, has such a small footprint, and is one of the easiest controllers to use. The control knob is so small that you can easily route it through your dash for a factory look and avoid...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Trailer Wiring Harness for 2019 Nissan Titan
The Curt Class III hitch you'd looked at, part # C13304 would be an excellent choice for your 2020 Nissan Titan. The hitch has an 8000 lb towing/800 lb tongue weight capacity (which could be limited by the capacity of the truck if it's lower). For a trailer connector, you'd want to use # N40975, which will give you both a 4 pole and a 7 way trailer connector. The connector also includes the necessary relays to activate the tow package. For a ball mount, use # 2753. For a trailer ball,...

You will need to consult the vehicle owners manual for all of the fuse and relay locations related to trailer wiring. The extra relay can be obtained at a Nissan dealer. If you want to add the complete wiring package, minus the extra relay required, use # N40975. I have included a video that should help...

I tried checking the owner's manual, but it does not list out all the fuse and relay locations and functions. You can check the lids on the various fuse panels though to see if there are any other relays or fuses that are either missing or bad that could be causing this issue. • Trailer Brake and Running Lights Do Not Work when Connected to a 2004 Nissan Titan
It is very possible that a relay for the running light tow package wiring is not functioning or is missing. What can happen sometimes is if the relay is not there, only some power can get sent back to the trailer but a full load will not work. This could be why the lights blink when you lock the truck with the key fob but do not work when constant power is applied. The 2004 and 2005 Nissan Titan trucks only require two relays. The relays in questions are included with the Hopkins trailer...

  • Trailer Running Lights Not Working When Connected to 2008 Nissan Armada with Factory Tow Package
It is very common for the Armada to lack a relay that allows your trailer's running lights to function. For this you will need the 4 Terminal Relay, one of the blue relays in the Curt Relay Kit # C57000. To access the relay connection point in your 2008 Nissan Armada, you will need to remove the kick panel on the driver's side. The location for the relay will be to the left of the steering column. I have linked a video of this installation for you to check out. If you don't have the factory tow package then you also need the Hopkins Kit # N40975 which comes with 7-Way and 4-Way connectors as well as the relays needed to enable the 7-Way to fully function.
