Fitment of Curt Hitch on a 2016 Volvo XC90
Question:
Can you provide a finished photo of your trailer hitch as installed on a 2016 Volvo XC90? Id like to compare against the factory part/installation for fit. Also, can you confirm your hitch is compatible with the rugged luxury trim package for the XC90? The trim package includes a stainless steel skid plate located under the rear bumper. You can see the trim kit on Volvos website.

Good news, I can help answer your questions about the Curt Hitch # C13233 for your 2016 Volvo XC90.
Even though we have not had a chance to test this hitch on the vehicle here at etrailer, I was able to find images from Curt's instructions that should help you see what it looks like on your vehicle. I've attached the instructions to this page for your convenience. This hitch is compatible with all trim packages, and in the instructions it also provides the heat shield modification specifications which I've also attached an image of for you. Since it didn't mention a skid plate, I called Curt and the tech told me that due to the skid plates location modifications will probably need to be made to allow for the hitch to sit correctly or to be removed completely. Since there are no specific instructions for modifying the skid plate, it would be up to the installer to determine how much to modify the skid plate.
One other important note from the manufacturer about this hitch is that it requires a stabilizing strap, like the # 18050, be used when transporting non-trailer loads. A non-trailer load would be a bike rack like the Apex from Thule # TH9025.
If you wanted to wire up your XC90 for towing, the # C56285 is the custom fit wiring harness for your 2016 Volvo XC90. For a small utility trailer you will need a ballmount like # C45030, a hitch ball like the 2 inch # 63845 or 2-5/16 inch # 63847, and pin and clip # C21500 to complete your setup.
