Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring that Stops Working when Vehicle Headlights are On
Question:
I have a 07 Audi A4 sedan. I first purchased the Curt 56201. In testing I found my veh has separate turn/brake/running light wires in the harness. So I returned the 56201 and got the 56146. Installed 56146 and all trailer lights brake/turns work perfect when headlights off but when headlights on just running lights work no brake/turn on the trailer. Any suggestions?

What you described is a classic ground issue. The problem is that the added amperage draw of the head/running lights being on for your vehicle makes the trailer taillights a bit weaker.
What you would want to is run the grounds of the light assemblies of your trailer back to the main ground harness of your trailer. I can almost guarantee that will fix the problem.
I attached a help article for you to check out as well that covers 4-way troubleshooting.
