2011 Nissan Xterra 12 Volt and Brake Output Circuits are Swapped
Question:
Installed this product, no problems. Super easy to install. When I pulled out of the driveway the trailer brakes were engaged, constantly. Traced wiring back to the Nissan port with the black and blue wire. Everything works great, until at the 2-wire black-blue post coming from the vehicle...My blue wire supposed to go for trailer brakes, correct? has constant power. The black wired has NO power whether the vehicle brakes are engaged or not. My not-so-ideal solution for the time being was to disconnect the trailer brakes so that I could get on the road. I can see that this reverse wiring is an identified issue, but can you help me out on the no power going at the black wire? It is supposed to be hot all the time, I believe. If this question has already been answered I apologize...So much to sort through here...i just missed it.

Like you said, for some reason some Nissan vehicles have those blue and black wires switched. You would have to swap their positions to keep the trailer brakes from being locked all the time.
Normally, the black wire is the 12 volt circuit and the blue wire is output to the trailer brakes. There should not be constant power out to the brakes or they will lock up.
And there would only be power on the brake output wire if you are using a brake controller (and when sitting still there may not be voltage on that wire because the controller needs to sense movement for it to send power back when you step on the brake pedal). It should show power though when a brake controller manual override is used sitting still or not.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 and you will also need cable # 3050-P to install it.
