Using Bike Carrier for 2 Inch Receiver on a Class I Hitch on a 2008 Subaru Outback
Question:
Hello, I have the Thule Parkway 2 inch receiver bike rack designed for 2 bicycles. Just bought a 2008 Subaru Outback with a CLASS 1 receiver rated for a 200 lb tongue weight. When I add up the weight of your HTAD adapter, the bike rack, and our two bicycles Im probably at 112 pounds and I know you recommend cutting the rating by 50. As a engineer I also know there are safety factors in these designs. Do you think I can get away with a 12 increase above your nomial recommendation? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Twelve pounds over is pretty close, and we don't usually factor in the weight of the adapter # HTAD. Considering those facts, if you were to take the seats off of the bikes to reduce the weight even more then you would likely be right at that 100 pounds and it would work.
You could also add a stabilization strap # 18050 to reduce the stress on the hitch. I linked a video showing how it works.
