Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2008 Ford F-150 with Factory 4-Way

Question:

My f150 has a town backage break buddy connection in the cab but only a 4 pin flat in the rear. I need to add a 7 pin with power and Preakness to the existing harness what part do I get for the plug in no slicing

To install a brake controller in your 2008 Ford F-150 you would be able to use the brake controller port under the dash and you will need to complete the wiring at the rear of your vehicle to the 7-way at the rear of the truck.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.

The install harness you would want is the part # 3035-P and then also the part # 37185 to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. I attached a help article that details how to complete the wiring from the frame rail to the 7-way as well.

Well hi there I’m Colby, i’m really needing help with my 2008 Ford F150 STX. I’m just installed a primus IQ P#90160 brake control system no problems with the wiring kit P#3035-P. But cannot find any wiring diagrams for the back of the vehicle trying to install a seven way P#47185 cannot figure out where the brake control wire or the Auxiliary power lead goes everything else seems pretty simple other than the reverse wires confused as well. This is for a travel trailer by the way. Please help, thanks

Hi Colby! On your F-150 the brake output (blue) and 12V (either orange or red) are usually ran to the rear driver's side frame rail. Sometimes they can be pretty well tucked up there and could be further up towards the cab. I wish I could point to an exact location but it's not always the same spot - it just takes a lot of digging sometimes. You might even bring the truck up to a local dealer or shop to see if they have any insight.

The factory brake controller plug on your 2008 F-150 will be hidden behind the dash to the right of the steering wheel. Take a look at the video I linked below, which shows the install process on your exact model truck and points out the location of this port.
