Steps to Ensure Maximum Trailer Tire Tread Life
Question:
We are replacing a set of 5.30-12 Carlyle tire and wheels that have not given good service. We travel extensively and need a load range D tire with a tread that will last as long as possible. Also, what material would be satisfactory to put in the replacement tires to self seal against punctures if that is even possible on trailer tires?

Expert Reply:
With any trailer tire, including the Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12 inch White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D, # AM30859, the best way to get the maximum tread life is to keep the tire inflated properly, do not overload the trailer, make sure the tire and wheel are installed correctly, and make sure your bearings are in good shape and properly greased. Any misstep in this list could reduce the life of the tire.
I would not recommend using any of the flat fixers as it could throw off the balance of the tire and cause problems. The best solution is to have a spare tire and wheel ready to go in case you need it.
