Can Tire Air Pressure in a Trailer Tire be 5 psi Lower than What it is Rated For

Question:

If I ever needed to fill this tire, the highest amount my pump could inflate to would be 100 psi. It doesnt go any higher than that. Would this tire/wheel still work at 100 psi? Or should I put 90 in like the wheel states? I am looking for a heavier tire than the 6 ply 530-12 i have right now.

You should always try to inflate a trailer tire to the maximum psi as indicated on the tire. But a difference of just 5 psi is not going to cause any trouble.

The issue is that trailer tires are designed with a thicker sidewall than passenger vehicle tires. When under inflated they generate excessive heat and can fail. But this is not an issue at 5 psi under what it is supposed to be. I have included a link to a helpful article on trailer tires for you.
