Replacement 5-Lug Trailer Wheels for 1978 Lextra Tent Trailer

Question:

I just bought a 1978 Lextra tent trailer and I would like to know if moder trailer wheel rims would fit on it. By looking at it, the rim center hole and hub seem bigger than what the currently sell today. Am I wrong ? Is there any after market rim that would fit the 1978 Lextra tent trailer axle hub ? They are 5 lugs 12inch rims with 5.30-12 tires any help please ?

In your 5.30-12 tire size we offer six combination wheels/tires in a 5-lug pattern, all in the 5 on 4-1/2 pattern, one of 4 different 5-lug patterns available. These products can be seen on the link provided. I was not able to find specs for your 1978 trailer to confirm its bolt pattern but the linked article will show you how to tell what you have. It sounds like you may have hub-centric

Considering the age of the trailer, particularly its axles and hubs, you may want to consider replacing the axle with a new up-to-date axle/hub assembly that includes new spindles, bearings, races, seals and hubs. This gives you both much better compatibility with replacement parts you're going to need in the future and the peace of mind of knowing that your trailer's moving parts are all in good order and have a long working lifespan ahead of them.

We offer complete axle kits such as Dexter # 20545I-EZ-60-10. This kit includes the axle beam, spindles, idler hubs, bearings, races, seals, grease caps, wheel studs, lug nuts, and even marine-grade wheel bearing grease. This kit works with 12-inch wheels. Its spring centers are spaced at 48-inches and its hub-face-to-hub-face distance is 60-inches. You can compare your axle's dimensions and rated capacity to see if this is a compatible replacement. We also offer a mounting kit # APUBR-10 for installing this axle.

We also offer Timbren axle-less rubber spring suspension systems that simply bolt (or weld) on to your trailer frame, such as their 3500-lb rated # A35RS545. This type of system eliminates the axle completely, which gives you better ground clearance, and it too includes idler hubs.

Please feel free to let me know your wheel bolt pattern and center (pilot) hole diameter and to include photos of your wheels and hubs and we can work with you to find all options for your pop-up.
