Upgraded Equalizer and Replacement Leaf Springs for 2020 Grand Design Transcend 27BHS

Question:

Hello, I have a 2020 Grand design transcend 27BHS. I am looking at replacing the leaf springs with the Morryde equalizer and wet bolts. I believe I have the 33 wheel base but was wondering if there was a way to look this up with my model to be sure? Also I have 4 leaf leaf springs on a 4400lb axle. They are 26 from center bolt to center bolt. Can I put a 5 leaf or would that cause issues and could you confirm the correct spring I need? I drive it many miles and they have flattened out. Also do you think the Morryde or Road armor is the best for long distance driving as far as the wear time? On the Morryde instructions I measured the frame hanger spread and I get 59. I dont think the Road armor matters as it fits any of them from what I see. Thank you

Since Grand Design is kind enough to list certain parts for their trailers I can confirm you have a 33" wheelbase on your 2020 Grand Design Transcend 27BHS. This means the MORryde Rubber Equalizers # MR87ZR will fit your trailer. Although I'm fairly certain the # MR46ZR is the right wet bolt kit, they do not list the shackle size so I recommend measuring. If you have 2-1/4" shackles then this is the correct kit. If you measure center hole to center hole and find it is 3-1/8" you need # MR76ZR instead.

I would choose the MORryde over the Road Armor # LC696740. You won't see a significant difference between the performance or longevity of the two. However, you do know the MORryde will be a good fit based on your wheelbase so that makes it an easy decision in my eyes.

Regarding the leaf springs, an additional leaf isn't going to cause any issues. Leaf count varies between leaf springs within the same capacity. The important thing is that you find the right capacity based on your axle. If your measurement was 26" from spring eye to spring eye with the leaf springs flattened out then you need something a little shorter. I recommend measuring the flat length to get the most accurate measurement. I have attached an article below which shows how to measure.

If you accounted for the leaf springs flattening then you could use the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,500-lb Trailer Axles - 26" Long # e27SR. The capacity is slightly higher but that won't impact your ride quality. If you find that the 26" measurement is the flat length then the # e44SR would be more appropriate. This is 25-1/4" long eye to eye but would have a flat length of 26-1/2" which would work for you. Again, the higher capacity won't make a noticeable difference.
