Tilting Bike Rack Recommendation for a 1-1/4 inch Hitch for Rear Cargo Access

Question:

Hi, I have a 2012 Mazda 5 with a 1.25 hitch. Im looking for a bike rack that will carry a minimum of two new road bikes. We travel quite a bit and usually have a rocket box on our roof rack. We also have a dog and a toddler and so we need to have rear access. And I would prefer that access be with the bikes on the rack. It would be a huge pain to have to load and unload the bikes off the rack everytime we need rear access. My previous research indicates that the Yakima and Thule swing designs are only made for 2inch hitches. Do you have any other suggestions to fit the needs of our family? Thanks!

What you might be interested in is a bike rack that can tilt back from the rear of the vehicle with bikes loaded like the Swagman Semi 2.0 2-Bike Rack # S64686. This may not allow you to completely open your rear hatch, but with it tilted back you would at least be able to open it slightly.

The 1-1/4 inch hitch bike racks do not have the ability to swing out and away from the rear of the vehicle. Only the bike racks designed to fit the higher capacity 2 inch hitches will have the option.
