Can Heavier Rated Leaf Springs than Needed be Used on a Trailer

Question:

2012 Flagstaff 228BH popup camper. AL-KO Axle #2750 Run Cap rating. Per AL-KO axles website, the springs are rated for 1375 each. Spring measurements are per your measurement points on the page for the e57SR spring: A: 25 1/4 B: 3 C: Hard to measure due to shackle bolt cannot be removed unless cut I come up with 13 9/16 but can see it could easily be 13 5/8 Spring width 1 3/4 Will the extra capacity of 400 lbs be a problem? I would not think so, but I am no expert! Also, do you carry any auto adjust brakes for this axle? Current brakes are 10 x 1 3/4. I dont see anything, but it never hurts to ask. Thanks,

Expert Reply:

If the leaf spring part # e57SR that you referenced matches up dimensionally to what your trailer has and has a capacity that is 400 lbs more than needed it would work just fine.

Having a bit extra capacity for the leaf springs would not cause an issue at all. At worst it may cause the trailer to bounce a bit more unloaded.
