After trimming the plastic molding to install the hitch receiver, how do I get the plastic plugs back in to reattach the molding to the car?

I don't see where fascia trimming is required when installing the Curt # C12108, so I'm not sure how you would properly re-install the molding that you mentioned. Can you tell me what model vehicle this is on?

On the drivers side of the car at the rear, there is a piece of plastic molding installed by the Toyota factory. I removed that to install the hitch receiver and trimmed the plastic molding as shown in the Curt instruction sheet. The molding fits but I can't get it back on the car. The molding is attached to the car with a screw and two plastic expansion bolts. I cannot press the plastic bolts back into place. I tried hammering on them and the brackets they slide into just bend. How do people reattach that molding? It is a 2018 Rav4

I apologize! I thought you were installing a different model Curt hitch - the Curt # C13406 does indeed require trimming. That driver's side molding should be able to be re-installed using the original hardware. You may need to hold those brackets while pushing the pins back in to keep it stable but they should pop right into place. Let me know if you continue to have issues.
