How to Determine Load Capacity of Trailer Suspension

Question:

How can I determine the load capacity of my trailer suspension without having the rating plate? I have a 97 Bobcat double jet ski trailer. My double jety ski trailer has 3 leaf slipper style springs t b that are 1 3/4inch wide and 24 1/4 lon. Ive noticed t b st these dimensions are themails same for the 750 and 1000lb springs. Im trying to determine if I already have the 2000lb axle and springs. In general can you safely exceed the carrying capacity of the suspension system?

Expert Reply:

We do not recommend that you exceed your trailer's carrying capacity. You will be limited to your axle's rating. The 3-leaf slipper springs, # SP-039275, that we offer measure 24-1/4" long x 1-3/4" wide. These springs are designed for use on trailers with 1,500-lb axles.

If your axles are only rated for 1,500 lbs you would be limited to that.

I have included a link to our 2000 lbs axles and a FAQ article on trailer suspension systems for you to check out.
