What is the Proper Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2004 Ford Escape
Question:
Im very confused on what wiring kit i need? I had a hitch installed on my 2004 ford escape.I purchased a wiring kit from another store which looks very similiar to your 30445. After installation it does not work I only get running lights no brake lights or signals, already returned to store. I researched this issue and found that ford put a different relay in models that didnt come with the tow package and was told that I would have to upgrade my relay to a heavy duty flasher #13350. Im not sure on what kit I need, and do I need to replace the relay with what ever kit I use? Would I need to replace the relay if I splice into the existing wiring and not use a kit at all? Would this kit work in a 2004 it says only thru 03, would I have to upgrade the flasher? Would a 119178KIT work and do I need to change the relay? Please advise. Thank you in advance for your help and assistance

Tow packages come with additional wiring that often requires additional relays. Since your Escape did not have a hitch on it, it did not come with a tow package and the port that Hopkins part # 30445 uses will not properly function.
The tail lights were changed for the 2004 model year, so part # 118343 will not work. You will need to use part # 119178KIT and this part will not require you to add a relay. It uses the existing circuits on the Escape.
Included in the kit is a circuit tester you will need to identify the proper wires to splice into. You will need to identify 4 wires: brake, left turn, right turn, and running light. I have added links to some videos and articles that should be of some help.
