Can I Change My Trailer Coupler from a 1-7/8 Inch Coupler to a 2 Inch Coupler

Question:

I would like to change my trailer coupler from 1-7/8 to 2inch just for convenience. Only have to keep up with one receiver hitch. It is on a jet ski trailer modified to carry kayaks so very light. Can I assume the 2inch will just bolt on using the bolts on the current coupler? I am looking at the 3500lb $16 coupler. This should work right?

Rather than change the coupler, the easiest option is to change the size of the ball ON YOUR BALL mount. If your coupler currently uses a 1-7/8 inch ball and your towing vehicle has a hitch and ball mount with a 2 inch ball, you can use an interchangeable hitch ball system. This way you will not have to bother with changing the coupler on your jet ski trailer.

If your current ball mount is compatible with a 3/4 inch diameter trailer ball shank then I recommend the # 800B, however if you need a 1 inch diameter trailer ball shank then you would use # 901B.

I have provided links to the parts listed above, videos of the products, and a few helpful articles for your reference.

If you would rather switch out the coupler, you will need to measure the distance between mounting holes on the trailer tongue. You will want a 2 inch ball coupler with the same mounting hole spacing, as well as the same bolt hole diameter. Then match those measurements with the specs on our coupler product pages. I have included a link to our 3,500 pound, bolt-on, 2 inch ball/2 inch channel trailer couplers for you to check out.

For the mounting hole spacing, you will need to measure from the center of the bolt holes.
