Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Excellent product, easy installation

Excellent product. Exact fit. Pre drilled holes made it easy for this 67 year old woman to install. Good quality. I also ordered the light kit for my 2003 Ford Escape. Easy to install with provided instructions.

Pricey shipping(did 2day cause of time crunch, relocating across country on the 1st). Tracking was on point. Efficient, and the product had all the necessary items for me to complete the job. YouTube video also synced up to exactly what was provided. Couldn’t be happier. All auto shops and uhauls in my area were quoting 10days to two weeks to get me in to install part number 118343, ordered the 25th, received the 27th, installed in a matter of 30min. Solid products, solid information, would recommend these services to family, friends, co-workers. Hell even folks I don’t know. Thanks etrailer!

I am very pleased with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver and the ball mount I ordered . I use my trailer frequently to haul lumber, fencing, and riding lawnmower, the product is of good quality and I recommend etrailer

Product arrived on the day it was estimated. The shipping package was in good shape, but the main product packaging was slightly damaged although the product inside was perfectly in tact along with all the instructions and hardware. They had exactly what I needed and otherwise a hard to find kit for my older model Ford Escape! Thank you again!

by:

Product works and was easy to install with a video guide. Written instructions were extremely confusing. I'm not sure what to do with the grounding wire though, because my 03 Escape did not have a predrilled hole for it...?

Thank you for your review! You can just use the metal screw that came with the kit to attach the ground into the sheet metal behind the taillight.

2003 Ford Escape

Ordered this hitch for my 2003 ford Escape. Placed order Sunday eve standard shipping and received wed. Very happy with the product. Drove the rear wheels up on ramps and installed in about 35 min. Slightly difficult by myself but is possible if you hold one side with you foot! I ordered the bolt guide wire which was to lose but twisted it to tighten the spring end so there was no chance of the carriage bolt getting stuck. The wiring loom was plug and play. Whole install hitch and wiring took 1 hour with the help of you tube video.

by:
2003 Ford Escape

I was surprised how easy it was to install the trailer hitch and the wiring harness.
It has worked great and saved me over $150. The pictures really helped.

I bought a used van that had some electrical issues with the factory trailer wiring. When I came across the installation video for this product, I quickly ordered it. Once I got the item, it was VERY easy to install and works like a million bucks!

No more trailer lighting worries!

2002 Mazda Tribute

Mazda Tribute 2002 LX. Excellent product. I watch the installation video which was a big help. No need to get under the vehicle and get dirty. All T connectors were exact fit. My panel where the trailer connection comes through was a little different. Still, I just used my 1/2 drill bit and made 4-5 holes and made an oval for the connector to feed through. I used some black tape to repair the cut you need to make in the grommet for the new cable. For the right side, flat cable I made a "T" cut into the grommet. This allowed the grommet to close around the new cable more naturally and helped with the taping. Used it last weekend, worked like a camp!

by:

When I usually put a trailer wiring harness in I buy the local stuff and then go through all the commotion of trying to get everything to work right never again, bought your product to fit my particular van watched your video then plugged it all in and it worked perfect all for a nice price !!!

by:

I purchased this along with a 75118 hitch. The installation was easy although I am glad I watched the installation video on this website first. The instructions that come with it tell you to take off the trim panels inside the car, this is not necessary. As the video shows, you can run the wires behind the bumper and zip tie them to the hitch. Everything went together easily and it works great.

by:

The directions weren't completely accurate or fully encompassing. With knowledge of trailer wiring and the vehicle wiring, it's easily figured out, but the directions have simple mistakes. This wasn't quite "plug and play" due to no access panel to easily route the trailer plug to the exterior of the van. In order to not make a large hole, I cut the wires to the exterior plug and ran just the wires through the body, rather than having to feed the large plug through.

2003 Ford Escape

This was easy it took me about 1 hour since i did it by myself with 2 jack stands. I did watch a video from some one on how to do this and it helped. They don't tell you when you order or look at the pitchers of what comes with the hitch. But they do include 6 wires for the carriage bolts so you don't need to order a separate one like i did. A helpful hint if you have some small wire of any kind use it to lengthen the back 2 wires for the carriage bolts it makes it easier. That is the only thing i wish they would change is that 2 of the six wires were about 4 to 6 inches longer. this was put on a 2003 ford escape and i did not have to mess with heat shield.

by:
2001 Ford Escape

Product showed up on time and as described, was very easy install, and does the job, the only thing I would like to see different, would be that the wires were closer to the correct length, so not so much would need to be bundled. I realize these are made for many different vehicles and I take that into account, I just don't like wires that are bundled and zip tied. This is not my first purchase from etrailer and as long as they maintain the same level of service I see no reason why it will be my last.

Got the trailer wiring harness (Part # 118343) for my 2001 Escape. I watched the video, and installation was very easy. The hardest part was getting the tail lights off. Less than an hour of work and I had a great trailer hook up with no wire splicing. Now...its off to the lake with my little boat to catch some fish. Thanks for the prompt shipping and email order and shipping updates. Its ncie to do business with a company that keeps their customers updated on their order. I'll be ordering more from etrailer.com.

by:
2003 Ford Escape

Outside of my own stupidity, this was a super easy install. (I accidentally plugged the T connector into itself and the vehicle wire back on the bulb) Just an FYI to etrailer, there is a great ground connection on the drivers side if the white wire ran with the yellow one instead of finding one on the passenger side.

When there are troubles with a wiring harness, the culprit is usually the wiring ground. I recommend starting with the ground location and moving out from there. Make sure the ground is secure on a clean, bare metal surface. If the ground appears fine, make sure the harness plugs are fully seated. From there, you can move on to testing the converter box. Use a circuit tester, like # PTW2992, to test the wires going into the box for signal as well as the wires leaving the box for signal. As long as turn, brake, and tail light signals are going in and coming out the converter box is functioning correctly. If signals are going in the box but not coming out, then the converter box has failed and the harness would need to be replaced.

by:
2003 Ford Escape

Easy install. Brightly burns 14 lights on my trailer including bright brake lights & turn signals.

by:

The wiring harness works great. The instructions that came with it, however, are worthless. The only correct part of the instructions is knowing the passenger side from the driver side. Use the video on etrailer.com. There is also a text of the video instructions. If not for the video, it would have taken twice as long to figure it out.

  • Troubleshooting Tail Light Converter on 2003 Ford Escape
As a first step, use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 on the 4-pole trailer connector. Turn on the left turn signal and test the pin on the connector being fed by the yellow wire. The tester should show voltage, and the light should blink along with the turn signal. This pin should also light up when the brake pedal is pressed. If the pin does not light up, check the connection point where the harness taps into the factory tail light harness. Make sure the connectors are firmly inserted...
