To install a brake controller in your 1993 Ford F-250, you will need to do some hard wiring. There will be four wires coming from the brake controller. The white wire is ground, the black wire is for 12V power, the blue wire is for the brake output and the red wire is for the stop light switch.

I would recommend picking up the Wiring Kit for Electric Brake Controllers, # 5506. This kit includes all of the items that you will need to hard wire your brake controller. First, the white wire from the brake controller should be attached to the negative post on the vehicle battery or to a clean, bare metal surface. Next, you will want to run the duplex wire through the firewall and into the engine compartment.

The duplex wire will contain a black and a white wire. The black wire will connect to the black wire from the brake controller and then connect to the positive terminal on the vehicle battery via the 20-amp circuit beaker. You will want to use a 30-amp circuit breaker, # 38630, if your trailer has more than 4 brakes. This will provide 12 volt power to the brake controller.

The white wire from the duplex wire will attach to the blue wire from the brake controller and should be ran back to the 6-way trailer connector. Find the wire on the 6-way connector that is designated for the brake output circuit and either cut the wire or find where it terminates and connect the white wire coming from the brake controller to this circuit.

Finally, you will need to connect the red wire to the cold side of the stop light switch. You will need to find the wire that only has power when the brake pedal is pressed. This should be located behind your brake pedal. This will provide power to the brake output circuit when you step on your brakes.

I have attached a brake controller installation video for you to check out. You can disregard the trailer connector installation at the beginning since you already have a 6-way connector. Beginning at the 6 minute and 30 second mark, our technician explains how to wire the brake controller.
