Finding the Right Ball Mount for a 2009 Chevy Avalanche to Tow a Trailer Level
Question:
I have a 2009 Chevy Avalanche and i will be towing a Continental Cargo 6x12 Trailer, The Hitch height on the trailer is 17inch as is the height on my Avalanche. which mount is the correct one that will not lower my towing capacity? Trailer GVWR is 2990Lbs, truck towing capacity is 5500Lbs. the lowest /rise i can find anywhere is 2/3/4, which is better to be a little high or low? My Truck is also equipped with rear auto leveling so the drop from the trailer weight should not have an effect on the height correct?

Using a regular ball mount does not reduce the capacity of the trailer hitch. That only happens when using certain adapters and extensions. Since the hitch height and trailer height are the same you would need a ball mount with no rise or drop. But let's make sure you are measuring the same way we do.
With the 2009 Chevy Avalanche and trailer on level ground measure from the ground to the top of the hitch receiver opening. Then measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler with the trailer level.
If that turns out to be the same again then a ball mount with no rise or drop would be preferred. About an inch in either direction would be fine too. What you could do is use ball mount # C45010 which has a drop of 2 inches. Then you could use a high rise ball such as # C40034 for a 2 inch diameter that also has a 2 inch rise effectively giving you a zero rise and drop.
If you needed a 1-7/8 inch diameter ball with a 2 inch rise you could use # C40032. A 2-5/16 inch ball that fits the ball mount is not available.
