Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2012 Honda CR-V Behind a Motor Home
Question:
I have a 2012 Honda CRV and a 2014 Itasca 31foot Sundowner RV. I would like to tow my car for future trips - my wife and I just retired! Anyway what would you recommend for a complete system. Im very mechanically inclined and not afraid to tackle anything. Please point me in the right direction.

I will be happy to help you with the parts you will need to start the next chapter in your lives. There are at least 5 things you will need to flat tow your 2012 Honda CR-V: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking.
For base plates the most popular option are the Roadmaster EZ4 base plates # RM-521567-4. I have linked a video showing how these base plates install.
For a compatible tow bar the most popular option is the Falcon 2 # RM-520. I have linked a video review of the tow bar as well. This type of tow bar mounts on a motor home which is considered to be a better connection type than a coupler style tow bar; more stable and secure.
For safety cable you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting you can use a magnetic kit such as # RM-2120 if you will not be flat towing the CR-V often. Or for a more permanent solution I recommend the 6-diode kit # 154-792-118158. It also looks like you will have to pull a fuse to flat tow your CR-V. Consult the owners manual to confirm. If you will be towing frequently, adding a fuse bypass # RM76511 will make this as easy as flipping a switch.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the CR-V brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles. You will also need a 12 volt outlet kit # RM-9332.
Be sure to consult your CR-V owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
