An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Dodge Grand Caravan

These were an easy solution for a Dodge Caravan that was hauling a lot of weight. No frills. No need for wires or air pump.Easy to install. It does change the way van rides a little but it's a good trade off to keep the van from being a "draggin' wagon.

Over one year on the Timbren Rear SES. It gives my minivan a nice stout stance and lessens body roll when unloaded. Much better support when loaded down than before and much less sag. I don't notice these much anymore, so that's a good thing. No noises either. Towed a small trailer last weekend, no issues and solid feel back there. I did a DIY jack-stand install which was difficult for me, especially having to reinstall and torque the control arms. The hard work has payed off, however! Highly recommend the Timbren SES.

A follow up - I've had these installed for nearly 2 yrs towing a trailer every week, sometimes over several hundred miles with 5 people in the van. They've been great. I've not even thought about them, which is a good thing. The ride may be a bit more firm, but I actually prefer it.

2006 Kia Sedona

Easy install. Works fantastic no more saggy butt.

by:
2017 Nissan NV200

The product worked as advertised for about fifty miles on my 2017 NV 200 Van while hauling my 650 Kawasaki attached to my MX Hauler. The pair tore loose on the freeway. the mounting hardware is the only thing that remains. see the image.

by:

It performs exactly as described and keeps the vehicle from bottoming out when loaded.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500

i have used Timbrens in the past on other well abused Caravans. Liked them enough to get another set for my present well whupped van. This set arrived at noon and I installed them after lunch. The factory springs were actually bent a little backwards so after the fast and easy install of less than an hour in the driveway (wind, snow and all) I removed the jack stand and lowered the hydraulic jack. The van settled down onto the rubber and now it sits level for the first time in a year. These reduce the side to side rocking when cornering and hold the van level when pulling a 1500 pound trailer with another 1000 pounds of scrap steel or other cargo in the van. I have tried booster springs and re-arching the leaves but Timbrens are a better way to go. Me and my van are too ugly for pictures......

Were glad to hear the Timbren suspension enhancement springs worked well for you. The springs work best when used on a suspension that is in good working order.

I am very pleased with the product. I've told others about it as well. I wished I had searched this website with my previous minvans /trucks. Because I replaced the worn out jounce bump stops with stock ones with very poor results. The stock ones don't last. Timbren rear suspension enhancement System is the best!!

2008 Kia Sedona

Install proved too much for this "shade-tree mechanic." Not too technical, but messing with the coil springs was beyond me. Thankfully the local muffler and brake shop was willing and able to do the job for just under $150. Unloaded is still the same ride. I'll update this review after a 3000 mile trip in a month. ALWAYS happy with etrailer!

When loaded, it makes all the difference when the tow vehicle is empty, its pretty noisy. Im hoping that it was an installation mistake -that causes the noise.

2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Before installation my truck body would hit the axel where the old bump stop had been destroyed on the driver side. After installing, I notice that my rides are smoother, there is less body roll, and when the truck is full there is less bouncing off the body. I had this professionally installed and have not had any more issues with the body roll, or the body hitting the axel. I have installed new shocks and the rear suspension is stiff when empty, but when it is full I do not have any issues. Great product, worth every penny.

Kia Sedona

Best available for KiaI wish I would have known about this product sooner. I have a Kia Sedona and there are only 2 suspension aids available. I previously had the Firestone airbags and don't recommend. The bags and compression fittings leak and installations complicated.

This was the only other option so I gave it a try. Very glad I did. They do exactly what they say they do. The Sedona doesn't dip nearly as much when I put the trailer on. In fact I had to go to my lower rise hitch so it would sit flat. Ride is solid, but not jarring. I don't really know about the reliability as I've only had them about a week, but it's a very simple concept so I can't imagine problems. They are basically oversized flexible bump stops and have no moving pieces. They seem expensive for what they are, BUT installation is MUCH cheaper than the airbags. It cost me just a bit over a hundred bucks to have them installed at a local service chain (Tuffy). They also are very discrete so your warranty likely won't be called into question.

2006 Ram 2500

Very easy install on a 2006 Kia Sedona. They save the rear coils under heavy loads. After install, filled the van to the tilt for a move trip (est > 2500 lb load) and drove more than 2000 mi with the smoothest ride, and no compression of rear springs. After a year they still look new. Highly recommended, and etrailer was the best deal.

EXCELLENT product. Great for trailering a boat or packing the vehicle for vacations

2005 Chrysler Town and Country

Installed on a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country over 2 years ago. They work as promised. I have hit some tough spots on the road fully loaded and the back never bottomed out. They stabilize the rear and make the overall ride quality better, especially under load.

by:

All I can say is easy, easy, easy. Installation. Went like clock work. In my driveway, 1 hour. I'll let you know if they ride ok after I pull a load with them.

They work exactly as advertised. Put them in our Kia Sedona and they reduced the sag when pulling our pop-up from probably 3" at the rear axle to only a 1/4".

Just installed on 2008 Hyundai Entorouge seems to work well. Only problem was that I had buy new hardware because the supplied hardware was standard not metric.
