Low profile, holds the bikes in place
and very easy to put the bikes on the rack. Also, very east install.

by:

I own two. I took one off and lost one of the metal pins that attaches to the mounting strap and can't seem to find them for sale anywhere. Great rack and would give it 5 stars but the arm is sometimes very stiff and hard to move.

You mentioned that you were looking for one the metal pins that attaches to the mounting strap. I checked and they only come with the straps. We have the replacement front mounting strap part # RKY1245.

by:

Pretty straight forward when assembling, very sturdy item. A little on the heavy side but you know its got quality behind it.

by:

This is a pretty okay roof tray. My main complaint is just how hard it is to swing the arm up and down. It seems VERY difficult. But it holds my bike well on longer drives so I guess that’s what is most important

by:

Love this product!! Super easy to put together and install on my Subaru!!! Highly recommended to anyone who is looking for this style bike rack.

by:

Excellent quality product. This is my 2nd Rocky Mounts rack purchase, and I will continue to purchase their brand in the future.

This rack works perfectly for my hardtail mountain bike. Keeps the bike secure and stable at both high and low speeds.

Would highly recommend to anyone.

Still very happy and my previous review still applies. The rack has worked well and is very sturdy and I will continue to purchase the Rocky Mounts brand in the future.

by:

So easy and convenient - Holds any of my bikes secure with freeway driving on long excursions. Super easy to get into and get the bike on top of the rack - 3 contact points and locks. I even saw another guy with the same truck have one on his truck in town - compliments to the builders

by:

Great rack, about to buy another one. Also bought a trailer hitch that we installed ourselves. In the process of purchasing a roof cage with bike mounts. Everything I have gotten off of the site is great. Had 2 hitches installed by you guys and everything works great. Definitely recommend.

by:

Very happy with the bike rack. Easy to assemble and put on the rack on the car. Like that it locks to the car rack and also locks the bike on. Easy to put the bike on and lock in place. Glad I made this purchase.

by:

Great service as usual from etrailer. Was a little disappointed with the rack, that it didn't come with the locks, can be ordered separate or transferred over. They could've suggested it in check out to buy "Rockymounts" could've just charged the couple of extra dollars and made the point moot. Still happy with the service. Thanks

by:

Excellent rack! I needed a rack that was not fork mount due to my Cannondale Lefty mtb. This rack was perfect.

by:

It’s such a good bike rack. Well made and sturdy.

The people at etrailer are excellent in communicating and following up.

The Rocky Mount BrassKnuckles Roof Rack for Fat Bikes is well designed and came with comprehensive instructions. It fit my Thule aero blade racks wonderfully. My Motobecane Sturgis now sits proudly on my Volvo wagon. I have driven up to 60 MPH with my bike on the roof with no drama what so ever.

We had been struggling to find a way to haul our children's 20" wheel bikes when we go camping with our pop up camper. The popup camper we have has a tent top vs. fiberglass (Livin' Lite Quicksilver), so we could not mount rails on a top like some pop up campers do. We had tried using a bumper mount hitch for our pop up and using a hitch rack, but that put the weight distribution all out of wack. I had not considered using a roof rack given that I was not aware of the ones you could stand the bikes up and not remove the front tire. I also was not aware you could put kids 20" bikes up there. After slowly learning there were racks I could do this with I landed on the RockyMounts racks. I spoke to the manufacturer in Boulder and I was considering the Tomahawk model, but then I saw etrailer had the heavier duty Brass Knuckles model for 2 prices. One was the model for Fat Bikes and the other was not. I was confused why this model (for Fat Bikes) was less expensive and basically its an inventory thing at etrailer where they've put the adapter in the package vs. selling it separately. They are closing out the ones including the larger bracket and moving to having folks buy the fat tire bracket separately. I now have a Fat tire bracket if I ever get one of those bikes. The racks come with the narrower bracket installed though so certainly buy the fat tire version in any case as its less expensive. I also needed two racks and I was anticipating having to reverse the front tire ratchet bar for the drivers side, but to my amazement when I received the two in UPS there was a passenger side as well as one for the driver's side already with the ratchet bar on the drivers side as well! I don't know if they do this at etrailer in the warehouse as a good gesture when customers buy two of them or not. In any case it was nice not to have to have to do that step as we were going camping the same day. The kids bikes rode well on the roof of the 2013 Subaru Outback-I heard no rattles or wind noise problems. I'd recommend these racks to anyone trying to haul kids bikes as well as 29'rs, or conventional mountain bikes with standard tires! Really nice product and Michelle S was super amazing to get these racks out so we had them for our camping trip!

by:

Excellent service from etrailer. Had to slightly modify rack arm to accommodate 27.5 x 4.5 w/ 150mm fork and studded tire, but I sort of expected that. The bike rack is sturdy and strong, I expect it to meet my needs. Thank you Rocky Mnt and etrailer!

by:

I am very satisfied with the two RockyMounts BrassKnuckle racks I purchased from etrailer.com! Shipped quickly without damage. Easy to mount on crossbars, function as expected, fit and finish is top notch.

Note - I ordered the optional lock cores however the rack shipped with lock cores installed. Not an issue and I will return the extras that I ordered. I recommend checking if the lock cores are required before ordering separately.

by:

I have a 29er Plus wheeled bike and needed to find a solid and secure roof rack to haul my rig to trails. I read reviews and settled on the RockyMounts BrassKnuckle roof rack. Mounting the rack to my Thule Aerobars was easy as could be with the simple instructions, tools, and hardware provided.
Great rack and great service as I have learned to rely on from etrailer. Thank you.

by:

Top notch quality easy to use solid rack

by:

I purchases and have been using a Brassknuckles with my fat bike for a few months now and have been completely satisfied with the ease of use. I have it mounted on an aftermarket roof rack on top of my Chevy Cruze. Liked it so much I just purchased a second Brassknuckles rack so I can drive when riding with a buddy.

  • Roof Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2008 Marin Rift Zone Mountain Bike
The maximum tire width the Thule ProRide XT Roof Bike Rack # TH598004 can accommodate is 3 inches. I looked up pictures of your bike and it doesn't look like you have fat tires on it, but you might still measure to be sure. The RockyMounts BrassKnuckles Roof Mounted Bike Rack # RKY1201 can be used with Fat tire bikes by adding their Fattie Fat Tire Adapter Kit # RKY1240. This kit includes a larger wheel holder an extra-long wheel straps. This kit works with tires up to 5-inches wide.

The Swagman Roamer LT Roof Rack, part # S80510 is designed for pop-up campers and truck caps and provides a great way to be able to carry accessories like bikes, kayaks, etc. This roof rack is not designed to be able to work with 1-piece, plastic trailer tops. It is designed to be mounted no further than 1/2 inch from the edge of the trailer top and the crossbars should be spaced at least 30 inches apart. I have a solution to the issue. I did some research on your Blix Aveny, and I found that the bike's weight is 58 pounds with the battery attached. Given this weight restriction, there are currently no roof bike racks that will support this weight. As a result, the best way to go is a hitch-mounted bike carrier instead of using the Yakima High Road # Y02114. There are some hitch adapters available that will allow you to have another hitch receiver opening to mount another accessory in...

The front rail attachment on the RockyMounts BrassKnuckles # RKY1201, is 6-1/2 inches at its widest point (see photo). • Best Options for Carrying 3 or 4 Bikes on 2013 Toyota Prius V
To carry bikes on your Prius V there are two options, you can go with a hitch or a trunk mounted bike rack. If you wanted to go the hitch mounted route, you'd be limited to carrying two bikes only. The hitch and bike rack manufacturers agree that no more than two bikes should be carried on a Class I hitch (which is the only hitch class available for your vehicle). Adding a third or fourth bike would increase the leverage applied to the hitch that would either damage the hitch or its attachment...

  • How to Change the Lock Core on a RockyMounts Bike Rack
Like you said, there isn't a master key for the RockyMounts lock cores. In order to change out a lock core you will need access to the back of the lock. Then with a small flat blade screwdriver or a knife you can press down on the pin that holds the lock in the housing and then push it out of the front. In the video I made, it is a Rhino-Rack part but the process is the same.
