Worked great! Not exactly what it was designed for, but I modified it for a boat step, for trailer.

Still perfect use for my application

Overall I'm happy with the product. I use it for steps to get in my camper. It's fairly lightweight and small. I can leave it on the vehicle when I'm driving, or take it off if I want a smaller footprint for parking. I have a license plate camera (since my tailgate is off, so my factory camera is removed) and for the most part the camera view is not obstructed by the step.

The build quality is pretty bad. I didn't feel like going through the hassle of return the product, but the top step is tilted quite a bit (see picture). It's just sloppy manufacturing. I'll live with it, but it's the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5.

Update: I ended up talking to etrailer, and they sent me a replacement, and the build quality of that one is good. It couldnt have been easier to exchange. etrailer did a great job. Still happy with the performance and functionality.

@Dave We're glad to hear that the situation ended well!

I am 67 with well used knees so climbing up and down from the truck bed was very difficult and not very safe. I received these stairs and popped them on the hitch. I have a Ridgeline so I could open the tailgate from the side and it cleared the step with plenty of room so I could use both steps. I climbed up and climbed down with no real effort and felt more than safe from falling or injuring a knee. It is small enough and light enough to put in the bed storage box so it is was the perfect solution to my problem of getting into and out of the truck bed.

by:

Should work well for our truck camper. A little play in the receiver but I can find a clamp to tighten it up.

Works well. Had to paint it white so people in parking lots would see it and not back into it. Also added non-slip tape for safety.

Item delivered 1 day earlier than quoted.. gotta love the E-trailer system...the product fits perfectly, the price was competitive, along with free delivery, how can you lose....thanks To all at E- trailer

by:

It’s fantastic!!

by:

Excellent addition for my 2022 Silverado 3500HD. When I get to the job I pop it in the receiver hitch and it makes getting in and out of the back a whole lot easier. Highly recommended

by:

Being somewhat disabled I had a hard time exiting my boat. With the help of these steps it is no longer an issue. These steps are solid. I used a small bumper receiver mounted unto the riser. Much easier to exit the boat now without the fear of missing my step on the trailer beam and falling or slipping.

Great, still solid and no flex

Great product! E-trailer is a great company and I love the website showing tracking etc would highly recommend

I came upon a reference to this product while searching on line for a receiver-mounted platform to replace the folding step stool we had been using to enter our Four-Wheel camper. It appeared to be just what we needed, and I found that it was an almost perfect fit. The top step is at nearly the same level as the step built into the bumper of our 2001 GMC Sierra, so this provides a large level place for our feet when we are exiting the camper. With the step unit inserted into the receiver with the middle hitch pit hole aligned, there is only a very small gap between the top step and the bumper step. I am not sure yet if we will be traveling with the steps in place, but I did install reflective red tape on the back edges of both steps, and on each side of the lower step, so that it is more visible. Be aware that the mounting bar of the step unit is not a tight fit in the receiver, so there is some movement when weight is placed off-center on the steps. Wrapping tape around the mounting bar, or perhaps inserting shims, might improve this situation.

by:

I like it! I use my '55 Grumman (Doughboy) for camping and was looking for an alternative to carrying around a stool/step to put on the ground. I came across this Hitch Stair and I already had a 2" receiver on Doughboy, so figured I'd give it a try.
I was going to make one myself, but didn't want to take the time.
It does have a little "wobble" in it, but that could also be my receiver. I just carry a couple of wooden shims with me to make it steady and it works just fine.
I recommend it!

by:

This two step hitch stair setup was exactly what I was looking for to provide easy access to our truck camper. The steps feel very solid and secure when going in and out of the camper. I bolted on some 2x10s to make the steps even a bit larger. I painted the wood and added antislip strips for safety. I also offset the wood steps a bit as our camper door is offset to the left. Silas the dog has no trouble going up and down these stairs! Great price for a great product!

by:

its what i expected

by:

This product really needs a third step. It was difficult to step up, way up, into the camper. But that is not a worry anymore. I sold the camper and purchased a 5th wheel. Right now the step is sitting in a corner of my garage collecting dust.

by:

nice step but would be nice if you included a pin to insert.

by:

Just right for vehicles with truck campers, especially if you need to run with the tailgate down. This with a hitch extender allows two steps and you’re on the tailgate.

by:

My truck bed camper is so easy to access with hitch stair and extender. Having them has finished off my project perfectly. Thanks

by:

This product is a life saver! After having stumbled off a small step ladder to exit my truck camper - resulting in knee surgery - I thought NEVER AGAIN! These steps are solid, stable and DEPENDABLE! Knee surgery is not how one needs to start retirement!

Thanks for a great SAFE product!!

by:

Quality is great however for a cab over camper there really needs to be a third step, or an option to add a third step.I really wanted these to work because while Bigfoot campers are amazing their option for stairs are rickety.

by:

Product great, the box it was shipped in wasn't.

Works great

by:

The stairs are perfect for my camper. Easy to slide out and stow to maintain high clearance.

by:

Just received the stair steps and put them on my 2019 F250. I am very happy with them as the steps allow me to enter and exit the back of the truck with ease. I should note that this is a work truck with a space kap installed so I have two doors that open, no tailgate. It is so much easier to have the two steps so I don’t have to step up high to get in.

Tim

Steps are still working great and are solid. I leave them on the truck all year in the north east so they see sand and salt in the winter but even so there is barely any surface rust. If I was in the market for steps again I would definitely buy these.

by:

Using as steps to make getting in and out of the boat safer. Not as nice as trick steps for this use but much cheaper and serves the purpose

by:

Great set of stars! Very well made and easy to attach.

  • Available Hitch-Mounted Step That is Less Than 15-Inches Wide
We do have many styles of hitch-mount step including 2-step models like # RHS2 (which is a bit too wide for you at 17-inches) as well as lighted steps like # BBS-1104L. For a good basic step that is less than 15-inches wide you might consider one of these: WeatherTech BumpStep # WT81BS1 Carr Mega Step # CARR190011 MaxxTow Hitch Extender with Step # MT70069 If you can tell me your vehicle year, make and model I might be able to offer additional custom-fit product options.

  • Measurements of Brophy Hitch Stair with 2 Steps RHS2 on Ram 1500 Pickup
The way to determine if you will be happy with the fit of Brophy Hitch Stair with 2 Steps # RHS2 on your Ram is to take note of the height of the top step relative to your receiver opening. The top step of this unit will be 5-1/4-inches above the top of the receiver opening on your Ram's hitch. The three hitch pin holes allow for flexibility in how close to the vehicle the step will be positioned. I went to our warehouse to measure these holes' positions relative to the top step. The...

Please note that this was designed to be used with the Brophy Hitch Stairs # RHS2 and hasn't been tested or approved as the base of a bike rack. I confirmed with the engineers at Curt that even though it is physically doable to mount the step on the Curt Grip Step # C25KR upside down on the mounting bracket in order to get a rise on your 2021 Toyota Tacoma, it has not been tested for that specific application. It is unknown whether that setup will be able to have the same 350 pound weight capacity. The bottom step of the Brophy Hitch Stair # RHS2 would still be usable with the tailgate down, but the top step would be blocked by the tailgate, so it might not be the best choice for you. In addition to the Hitch Stair, we offer several other options that might work for you. Bestop offers the Trek Step, part # B75300 which mounts under the vehicle, and will extend or retract with a push of the foot. • Hitch Step Recommendation with Step Lower than Hitch Tube
I believe we have just what you are looking for. Check out the Brophy Hitch Step part # RHS2. This actually has two steps. One lower than the hitch shank and one that sits above it. This would not require any hitch adapters to get a step lower than the hitch tube. For a locking hitch pin we have the part # e98880 which would work well.

Unfortunately, they will not be able to accommodate your Reese winch that is compatible with a 2-inch receiver.
