Distance Between Slat Openings in the Deck of Flint Hill Goods Aluminum Cargo Carrier with Ramp

Question:

We are considering ordering this carrier for use with our slide in truck camper. With the ramp, we figured it could stay on and wed still be able to walk up the ramp and get inside the camper. My question is, how far apart are the openings in the ramp? If we laid a carpet runner over it, would a German Shepherd be able to walk up it easily, or would his paws go between the slats?

The spaces between the slats in the deck on Flint Hill Goods cargo carrier # FHG69ZR are about 1-1/2 inches wide. That would be fine for a pup the size of your German Shepherd. I think the carpet is a really good idea.
But if your primary reason for wanting this cargo carrier is to enter/exit the camper in the truck bed then I recommend some hitch steps such as # RHS2. I have linked a video review of this product for you.

Hitch mount cargo carriers are not meant to stand or walk on, just to hold a static load. Standing/walking on it can make it unstable or put too much weight on one end and damage the carrier.
