Will Kwikee Electric Steps Work for You?

Electric steps are typically installed on RVs and some travel trailers. The electric steps from Kwikee install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

Kwikee In and Out

The Kwikee electric steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the doorframe, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 25-1/2" wide and 11-3/8" deep.

If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 24-3/4" wide to 37-1/4" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

Outriggers for RV Steps

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

Kwikee Entry Height

To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 8" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays mounting bracket widths in the first column and entry height measurements in the second column. The third column shows the corresponding part numbers. Use the mounting bracket width and entry height measurements you took to determine which part number will fit your RV. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

Sturdy, smooth running, we love it!

by:

The steps were great. Had trouble with the polarity for the automatic steps. Lipert said they changed the polarity of the switch. Would have been nice to know. Otherwise all went well

by:

Thanks for getting the steps here on time, there installed and we leave in two more days for a five week trip. They fit right in place of the broken set. The box they were shipped in was tore apart when they arrived, but everything was still OK. thanks again

Fast delivery

by:

The steps were easy to install with all the original mounting points lining up perfectly. I unplugged the wiring from the old steps, removed the bolts and was ready to begin installing the new steps. With the aid of a jack, the new steps were lifted into place and the mounting bolts installed. Then I plugged in the wiring and the new steps worked perfectly. After a year of use, they are still working great.

DO NOT USE etrailer. Horrible experience and poor customer service. Two sets of steps were shipped damaged after specifically asking them to package there products better. It took them forever to reship the second set and I had to follow up with them each time and several times, 30-45 minute wait times every time you try and reach their customer service. I'm not kidding, 30-45 minutes to reach anyone. I finally had to cancel the order after five weeks of dealing with this mess. After two more additional weeks of not receiving a refund, I had to call them back again. Come to find out, they did not cancel my order like I asked. They wanted me to wait another 8-10 days for a refund because of another one of their mistakes. I finally had to DEMAND to speak with a manager and DEMAND a refund and they almost didn't give it to me. Seven weeks of dealing with their incompetence; UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

> The Kwikee Electric Steps arrived in excellent condition Via UPS. The internal packing was minimal
> so it must have been a smooth ride as the box showed no signs of damage.
> The weight of the step assembly makes the job look to be more intimidating than it really is.
> Start by removing all power from the affected circuits, after extending the steps fully.
Disconnect all wires via the connectors as well as the green ground wire that fastens to the chassis.
> Extending the steps allows easy access to the four 9/16 in nuts/bolts that secure the base plate to the
> RV structure. I supported the weight of the assembly with a common brick at the center of the middle step
> as the extended steps began to droop as the bolts released tension on the mounting plate.
> The outer step will touch ground first as things begin to droop and the remainder of the weight will be supported
> by the brick. No drama but be careful if things look less than stable.
>
> Now this next part requires checking what the Vehicle Up fitters did when mounting the original step assembly.
> In my case, Fleetwood modified the mounting hole arrangement. Standard configuration mounting holes are 22 inches
> by 8 inches. Fleetwood left the outer mounting holes as stated but assumed a somewhat random spacing of 9 1/4 inches in
> the other dimension, thus requiring that a slot be fabricated. Air powered jigsaw and a Dremel Tool made short work
> of this. Warning here is to be certain of the mounting centers before starting the second half of the job.
>
> This next part was almost pleasant. I used a hydraulic floor jack with a buffer section of wood to prevent scratches
> Balance the step assembly and buffer on the jack as you roll the jack under the RV. Center the approach by eye
> and marvel at the four bolts peaking through the mounting holes. Raise the jack and position the bolts as you go.
> Finger tighten the nut/washer at each hole finger tight. Release the jack and let the steps hang loosely. Reconnect
> the wiring checking that the loose hanging wires will clear all moving parts of the mechanism and extend the steps
> under power. You can now proceed to tighten all the fasteners in sequence to gradually raise the steps to the final
> position.
>
> This job was a replacement/repair and was a true Plug n Play operation. It all worked as expected, first time. Nice!

by:

Steps arrived on our door step in badly beat up cardboard box.
Minimum damage to actual step unit. A few scratches, but tollerable.
Challenge was to remove the old unit. Lots of "liquid wrench" needed on the four nuts holding the old unit in place.
Needed strong assistant to manage the floor jack while positioning the new unit into place. Twenty-something sons are good for something after all :)
Definitely watch the videos on etrailer.com for tips on how to remove / install the unit.
Took 2 days of repeated administration of liquid wrench to be able to break the nuts free and uninstall the old steps. Be patient, you don't want to strip the nuts or you will never get the old steps off.
In my case (2005 Winnebago Adventurer) I did not need to install the new magnetic switch set, the existing system worked just fine.
Connected the 4 wire connector and everything worked fine. Exception is that the steps "on and off" switch is now reversed... I can live with that. I will relabel the toggle switch.
In my case the repair shop I usually use wanted $1600 just to Mickey Mouse a replacement motor into the original unit. With etrailer.com I spent $900 and about 4 hours of manual labor for a brand new step unit.
I would highly recommend this unit.

by:

The steps have been trouble free since installed, good quality, easy install. Had a little trouble with damage during shipping, but Paul had another set shipped out right away and return shippping on the damaged set.

by:

Product delivered as scheduled. Package was beat up pretty well, but the steps appear to be unharmed. The steps are a replacement for the existing steps that were damaged.

The steps are a direct replacement for the originals. No Problems

by:

The steps were everything I expected, since they were replacing my older steps. Only had one problem as I had to ream one hole out because 3/8 bolt wouldn't go through hole, other than that it arrived very fast and works fine.

by:

Loved the kwikee steps that I ordered and received from etrailer that were an exact match to my damaged ones thanks to my customer service representative Tammy she went above and beyond to make sure everything including shipping info and delivery date Was taken care of

Since the Lippert Components Kwikee 25 Series Triple Electric Step # LC3658373 won't stay out when you flip the wall switch off, it sounds like you have the manual switch wired incorrectly.
