Will Kwikee Electric Steps Work for You?

Electric steps are typically installed on RVs and some travel trailers. The electric steps from Kwikee install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

Kwikee In and Out

The Kwikee electric steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the doorframe, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 25-1/2" wide and 11-3/8" deep.

If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 24-3/4" wide to 37-1/4" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

Outriggers for RV Steps

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

Kwikee Entry Height

To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 8" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays mounting bracket widths in the first column and entry height measurements in the second column. The third column shows the corresponding part numbers. Use the mounting bracket width and entry height measurements you took to determine which part number will fit your RV. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

etrailer, as always, has performed excellently. I had some issues with the steps but it turned out to have nothing to do with etrailer. The on-off step switch is reversed, it something I can live with. I have a 2003 Mini Winnebago and this was the only Kwikee step made and available for my RV. I know because I called the company.

by:

I love my new steps! Very solid! I had to rebuild my entry step in my motorhome due to water damage. This actually made it easier to install bolt hole locations that lined up with the new step. The steps are very heavy but I used a short piece of wood and a pump up jack until I could align the bolt holes and insert 2 bolts/nuts to hold in place then removed the jack and lined up the other 2 locations. I'm a 65 year old woman and completed this project from start to finish 100% by myself. Was it easy? No, but obviously possible with enough ingenuity and patience. I also added steel angles to support the steps instead of just plywood that was originally in the coach. These are heavy duty steps, they don't flex under use and I wanted them to last which is why I reinforced the support system.

by:

Very happy with my Kwikee steps. Installation was a bit challenging but it actually went pretty smooth. The steps work great.

by:

2004 Fleetwood Flair Class A RV. My original RV steps (Kwikee 903206001) broke. I reached out to eTrailer and Anna recommended a direct replacement part # LC379145. This included all parts: steps, motor, gear, light. It bolted right up and all the control wiring plugged right into the original harness. I am very please with the new steps and eTrailer staff.

by:

Everything was in the package. Had some problems with getting it to work but turned out it was the sensor in the door that was the problem. Spent time on the phone with the folks at etrailer and they were incredibly helpful thru the whole process.
I have purchased other products in the past and have had nothing but outstanding service.

Some doofus (I won’t mention any names, cough, cough) ran into something and bent the Kwikee steps on my 2005 National RV Tropical all to hell. Of course in these days of bankruptcies (National RV in 2007 ??), obsolescence, etc., etc., I expected the worst when beginning research for a replacement. But etrailer came to the rescue! I had the obsolete p/n 903206000 and you provided the new p/n LC372261- but even better news is that you have the Kwikee steps in stock! What a relief! I ordered the steps on a Friday afternoon and they arrived in Ca. the following Tuesday. Wow. An easy plug & play installation, but as they weigh 60lbs and I’m an old fart now, an RV repair joint supplied the muscle replacing them - thus my avoiding a trip to the E.R., or worse. The only thing I would suggest is perhaps Kwikee adding some additional packing for the steps’ scissoring arms side to prevent them from protruding through the shipping container like mine was. As the steps side is a large flat surface, that's not a problem. The steps are robust as all get out (did I mention 60lbs of steel?) and there was no damage. George J. is on my etrailer communications and I’d like to thank him for his quick support! You’d better believe etrailer is now bookmarked for my 18 year old coach.

by:

Package arrived quickly and without damage to the stairs. The install was quite easy despite considerable rusting under the motorhome. Thanks eTrailer!

by:

Absolutely delighted with this product. I would do it again in a heart beat!

by:

Parts requested came into my shop as described and before due date. I will continue to use etrailer for all of our parts needs. Thank you etrailer

by:

The motorized steps were a perfect fit in my 1997 motor home. Wiring had been torn up on the old steps making it difficult to figure out the right connections to attach. The etrailer associates were very helpful in getting the right person to help me figure out what the previous owner had done to the wiring. I have recommended etrailer to other people because of the quality of the product and excellent help they were during the installation of the steps.

It is still working great even after many miles and lots of use.

by:

Received step in timely delivery bolted it right up. Everything worked on step. But did have have a problem with the door switch. Not a problem with the step. After I diagnosed the problem every thing worked great. Highly recommend etrailer

by:

Great service to get correct steps and order delivered so fast!

by:

Direct replacement for the steps on a 2010 Winnebago View 24J. No issues with the switch in the footwell, wiring harness connector, fasteners or direction of motion (opening the door opens the steps, closing retracts). Only a small adjustment was made to the mechanical stops when the steps are extended so there's even pressure against both stops. The unit is a little heavy so it was a 2 person job getting the old steps off and the new installed. Works just like the original.

by:

Other than the fact there was no installation information at all, going thru the trouble shooting guide it was doable.Recommend doing an installation Guide as My MH had never had a factory step and it was a challenge, but the best product I have gotten since we had to start buying on line to get what you need. Thanks,

by:

Item arrived everything is expected one thing is it did not come with a switch or a magnet as indicated on the website
That’s why I gave it four stars

by:

This greatly increases the safety of my frequent entering and leaving my RV by providing safe sturdy steps to grade. Otherwise, each time manual steps are stowed, it's a struggle to enter the rig with no steps and vice versa.

Extremely well. Im currently working on putting a switch in the hallway to be able to manually control the step light. As I get older with hip and knee issues, the steps are a very needed resource

by:

Yes I received my new steps today they look great. The tracking info was great, the prompt shipping, the day I order it was shipped the same day. I love that kind of service. SINGLE STEP CONVERSION TO A DOUBLE STEP
1999 ULTIMATE FREEDOM 40' MOTOR HOME ( WINNEBAGO)
My coach had the single step 28 series, I order the 32 series two step. My coach always seamed like it needed another step. Very difficult when the airbags are in the normal or driving mode for my wife to get in and out of the coach. So I ordered the double step and I installed it today. The 28 series as a 22 inch by 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern the 32 series as a 22 inch by 8 inch bolt pattern. In which I knew when I order it. But when it got here the 32 series as bolt pattern for both 8 inch and 6 1/2 so I installed it set back about 2 inches to far back. So I drilled a 8 inch bolt pattern on my coach (very simply modification). After the slight modification to my coach it was a perfect fit. The bottom step is 8 inches off the ground, when the bags are fully deflated the bottom step is clearing the ground by about 1 inch. The single step 80 percent of the time was always to high. So I carried a portable step made for RV's. I will very seldom have to use it now. On the rare occasion if the step hits the ground on a steep incline then I may leave the steps in the close position and use the portable step. I want to thank again the staff at etrailer.com for the prompt service and the very good price, believe I shopped for a good price and your price was the best I found, thanks again. Very Happy customer

by:

The steps arrived quickly and were easy for two people to install. There was a question on the order and they reached out to confirm immediately causing no delay in the projected delivery date.

by:

Fast shipping very nice product just too expensive

Thomas

Very expensive but it works good

by:

My steps started to work intermittently and they were rusty. So I Bought the 32 series steps for a replacement on my 1999' Winnebago Vectra Grand Tour. Bolted right up,plugged in the wire harness, and the steps started working perfectly! (Even with the old magnetic door switch!). I also added a large mud flap to keep road grime off the steps! Highly recommend etrailer. Very good price and "FAST" shipping too!

by:

The RV is the only thing that makes this not fun to install. Used a floor jack and some blocks of wood and it was easy installation day. Hooked up and grounded it worked as advertised. For me no electrical work or monkeying with the switches in the door. I removed the mag switch last year due to inadvertent extensions while driving and installed an up/down switch at the entry way.

by:

Product works as described on the websi te.

by:

I would have given a 5 star if there were holes across the front of the mount plate. Other than that everything was great. I got the steps on the day they were supposed to be here. I had to change the electrical plug and the sensor switch on my door (which was provided) but every wire was the same color as the old wires so it was easy. It only took me about 2 hours from start to finish. I would highly recommend this company and will most likely be using them in the future.

by:

Replaced an old Coach Step unit with a new Kwikee. Bolted right in and wired right up to the old harness. The only thing I had to do was change out the magnetic switch, because mine made the steps close when they should open. No big deal, and the magnetic switch came with the unit. Nice solid construction!!! Thanks Lippert Kwikee!!!

by:

Steps work great. I had them installed at Cummins Mid South in Columbia, Mo.
Look better than the original Coach Steps
Hopefully this set won’t eat motors like the Coach Steps.
