I haven't installed the part yet but the temperature sensor stem is longer and stouter looking than the one that came with the transmission cooler. The tip broke off easily on the original one. I'll try to post pictures when it is installed. Thank you!

Can Derale D13760 Hyper-Cool Transmission Cooler and D13021 Thermostat Be Installed Upside Down
If you're speaking of the # D13021 Hyper Cool Remote cooler with fan, yes the fan can also be mounted upside down. It IS a remote fan and doesn't need to be directly in the wind generated by the vehicle driving down the road, but it will need access to airflow it can pull across the coils. For example you wouldn't want to install in in a confined space. If you're speaking of the thermostat, It can certainly be installed upside down, as a matter of fact that's how it's shown in the instructions...

Availability of Higher Temperature Inline Thermostat with 6AN Fitting for Transmission Cooler
The closest similar fitting/thermostat we'd have that would work well for you would be the part # D35025 which has a 190 degree temperature that it kicks on. If this can help keep your transmission fluid at 190 degrees you'll be better off than letting it get warmer.
