Pros: good fit, very subtle mount when not in use, pretty easy to install by yourself.

Cons: arrived with a gash in the box and lots of scratches that were not explained by the damaged packaging - I ground down some sharp spots in the damaged area and then spray painted all of the exposed metal; also, the instructions were almost useless - the diagrams aren't clear and the steps are not very detailed. You have to figure out a lot of things by yourself.

etrailer contacted me after this review and gave me a partial refund to cover the damage, which I really appreciated. The hitch has worked great for us. Very pleased with this product.

This hitch does the trick for a Mazda5 minivan. Fitment and finish are both excellent. Installation was easy, due to the directions and supplied installation "tools" being outstanding. 4.5/5!

My only complaint (hence the -.5 rating) is the hitch sits deeper under the bumper than I would like. On a vehicle with this low of a ride height it can make it a bit tough to install/remove the pin.

Hitch seems well made and arrived packaged pretty well. A couple scrapes and scratches on it but it’s going under the car and like all hitches, will eventually rust etc so who cares.

Installed on a 2015 Mazda 5. It was nice that etrailer had dedicated instructions for my car, that helps a lot. I’m very mechanically inclined but did not have a dye grinder to expand the holes so I just used a drill and some larger bits and it was slow going but I got it done. The only issue I had was the directions, both printed and the PDF were hard to read with some of the printing just being illegible.

Price/components/service and shipping speed is why I went with etrailer.

Bought this hitch for my new van so that I could attach a trailer and haul lumber and other building products. It was tight fit under the rear bumper so I took it to a garage, who installed the hitch for me. However, I would recommend your company to my friends as the service, quality and price of the product was good.

Great product, very solid. Installation was more complicated than others I've done in the past (cutting the heat shield and opening up the mounting holes), but still only took us about an hour and a half. We had no troubles towing a Sea-Doo, and will be using it to mount a bike rack. I also purchased the recommended support strap for the bike rack.

I'm giving this a 5 star based on the excellent customer service I received. The first hitch receiver I got was defective. That's never great - but it happens. The amazing thing though was when I called etrailer, the gentleman I spoke with agreed to call the mechanic who was doing the install. He actually made the call quickly. After determining that the part I got was defective, he got a replacement to me quickly. The mechanic installed the replacement without any problems. The mechanic also told me that he'd installed 35 - 40 hitch receivers from etrailer and never seen a problem.

It's a drag that I was the guy who got a bad part. But that happens. And etrailer came through. Thanks!

This hitch is particularly stout, weighing in at 30+ pounds. Installation isn't so simple (due to Mazda 5 design), but the instructions from etrailer provide an accurate and comprehensive understanding of what is involved. It took me about 3 hours to install. Here are some of the salient points about installation:
- put the car on jackstands (or a lift if you have one available). Nearly impossible to install w/o raising the backend of the car for better access.
- lowering the muffler and removing the heatshield was straightforward.
- grinding out larger mounting holes held no surprises and took about 10-15 minutes.
- cutting out the heatshield was particularly concerning (as this is a brand new car). Basically, the hitch mount replaces that part of the heatshield, so you still have heat protection from the muffler. But, I'm somewhat concerned that the hitch is a better conductor of heat than the heatshield (and maybe doesn't offer the same level of protection). Probably just my engineering neurosis.
- fishing the carriage bolts & spacers was a snap.
- mounting of the hitch and re-installation of heatshield & muffler were straightforward.

Good installation plans made for an enjoyable long lasting no worry hitch. Now we can pack the kids and store everyone's stuff on the back hitch rack.

We love it! etrailer helped us find the right brake light package and over for the trailer, too! Great service and products!

Best design on the market. Keeps the receiver as high as it can go, this keeps it out of the driveway. Install was so easy and the hardware provided.

by:

A little challenging to fish the bolts into the frame, but the whole install took just a few hours.

by:

Exactly what I needed. A little too difficult for me to install, so I paid to have it done by the local mechanic for $150.00

by:

Easy enough install - working well.

Took me a Saturday to install, but if you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty, it's not to bad.

  • Option for Carrying 4 Bikes with a 2012 Mazda 5
On a Class I hitch you should never carry more than 2 bikes with a hitch mounted bike rack. The reason is because of the additional weight and leverage of the additional 2 bikes would be too much for the hitch/frame and would most likely cause damage. I attached an FAQ on hitch classifications for you to check out. At this time there are only Class I hitches available for your vehicle (like the Curt Trailer Hitch # C11127 you referenced). However, you if you really need to transport 4...

  • Options to Carry 4 Bikes on a 2012 Mazda 5
Both the Curt # C11127 and the Draw-Tite # 24874 are Class I hitches for your 2012 Mazda 5. They will allow you to mount a 4 bike carrier but the carrier will tell you that loading 2 bikes is the max capacity with a class I hitch. I've linked the pages to all the 4 bike rack options and the 2 bike options for you. The Thule Camber you referenced is a fit within the restrictions I already gave. To carry 4 bikes you can use 2 bikes on a rear rack and another two bikes on a roof rack....

  • Recommended Thule Bike Rack For Carrying Bikes Behind 2012 Mazda 5 With Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver
While we have not installed the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11127 on a 2012 Mazda 5 in our shop to get a hitch pin to bumper measurement. We have installed the Draw-Tite # 24874 which we found to only have a 4-3/4" distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rear edge of the bumper. As you mentioned physical limitations I recommend going with the Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack # TH903202. This has plenty of clearance at 8" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the upright...

  • Trailer Hitch Available for a 2012 Mazda 5 Hatchback
I spoke with my contact at Curt and he said they have just released the Curt Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # C11127 for the 2012 Mazda 5 Hatchback. It is a Class I hitch with a 2,000 lbs towing weight capacity and a 200 lb tongue weight capacity. The ball mount and pin and clip are included. The instructions say you will have to lower the exhaust, enlarge access holes on the frame, and trim the heat shield. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Curt hitch. If...

  • Recommended Inno Hanging Bike Rack for 2012 Mazda 5
We do have some great hitch-mounted bike racks that will work well on your 2012 Mazda 5, however based on my research the Inno Vertical Hang 4 Bike Rack # INH540 that you referenced will not be compatible. This is because the Inno Bike Rack requires that the hitch pin hole is recessed no more than 4-1/2 inches behind the rear bumper of the vehicle to ensure no interference between the rack and bumper. The center of the hitch pin hole for both the Draw-Tite # 24874 and the Curt # C11127...

  • How to Enlarge Access Holes to Install Curt Hitch # C11127 on a 2012 Mazda 5 w/o Die Grinder
Actually there are drill bits made for power drills that will work just like a die grinder. So I would recommend you get one of those drill bits and then use it with your drill to enlarge the access holes of your 2012 Mazda 5 to install the Curt Hitch # C11127. I attached a link to the installation instructions for this product for you to check out also.

  • Is Ball Mount Included with Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11127?
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11127 is a confirmed fit for 2012-2015 Mazda 5 models. It does come with pin and clip, but the ball mount is sold separately. For a ball mount, I recommend the Curt Drawbar for 1-1/4" Hitches - 3-1/8" Rise - 9-1/4" Long - 3,500 lbs # C45520. You will also want a hitch ball like # C40001 for a 1-7/8 inch or # C40018 for a 2 inch. For your vehicle trailer connection, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole...

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2015 Mazda 5 for use with Class II Accessories and Adapter
Since the Draw-Tite # 24874 has restrictive tab in it, it still may prevent you from using any type of adapter for 2" hitch accessories in a 1-1/4" hitch. Because of that reason I recommend going with the Curt Class I Hitch # C11127 since it does not have the restrictive weld stop that would keep you from freely using a 1-1/4" adapter for your 2" receiver accessories. Because of the limited capacity when using adapter accessories, if you'd like an option to carry more bikes I recommend...

  • Trailer Hitch Fit for 2012 Mazda 5 and Yakima Ridgeback 4
The only hitch that we offer for your 2012 Mazda 5 that will work with your Yakima Ridgeback 4 # Y02458 is the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch # C11127. This is the only Class I hitch we offer without a stop. When used with a Class I hitch, the Ridgeback will be limited to carrying 2 bikes. The Curt hitch # C11127 also requires the use of stabilization straps, # 18050, when carrying all non-trailer loads, such as bike racks.

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver and Vertical Bike Rack Recommendation for 2013 Mazda5
If you look at the attached photos, you can see how a custom trailer hitch receiver, like the Draw-Tite # 24874 or Curt # # C11127 are designed to avoid interference with the exhaust system. Universal hitches, like # C13900, have a cross tube that runs straight across, which will not work on your 2013 Mazda 5. Short of having a local fab shop fabricate and weld a custom 2 inch receiver for you, you're going to be limited to the 200 lbs of tongue weight that one of our custom hitches can...

  • Where to Place the Stabilization Strap On a 2012 Mazda 5 to Carry a Cargo Carrier with a Curt Hitch
On the vehicle side, you would place the stabilization strap end in the gab between the roof and the rear hatch on the 2012 Mazda 5. The other end of strap # 18050 can be attached to the top rail of the carrier either at the back in the center or at the front if there is space. As long as the strap is relieving some of the stress on the hitch, it is really up to you were you place it.

  • Recommended Hitch and Wiring Harness for 2012 Mazda 5
We have just what you're looking for. I recommend using the Curt # C11127 because of the heavier powder coating on the Curt hitches compared to others. This is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver that is a confirmed fit on your 2012 Mazda 5. For a wiring harness I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One Wiring Harness # 118520, which will tee into the plugs for your vehicle lights and provide you with a 4 way plug for trailer lighting. You will also need a ball mount similar to the Curt...
