Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

The holes for the 3rd bolts (M12 on the installation instructions) on both sides does not fit the weldnut hole on the 2013 xterra frame. No acceptable solution or response offered by etrailer.

Thank you for leaving a review and for bringing this to our attention. Our customer service team should be reaching out to you in the near future. In the mean time you might like trying some of the methods in the help article I linked. It shows how to straighten out a hitch that is flexed which sounds like could be the problem you are facing.

by:
2010 Nissan Xterra

Quality of the hitch is good if only it were to fit correctly! (Mounting holes didn't line up.) Then, had to wait about 20+ minutes for customer service to actually answer my call! Not a good start!

Now I'm wondering if the electric hook-up will correspond?

5 stars for etrailer- the drawtite hitch is a winner too. It was poking out of the box a bit when it arrived (quickly i might add) but it wasn't any worse for wear minus a scratch. The hitch sits nice and tight to the bumper and is a great price at etrailer, the supplied bolts are tough to tighten up, in fact i worried i was going to cross thread one but managed and got them snugged down with an impact. Great videos, great shipping, great customer service - my neighbor came by to see me and i was telling him how great etrailer is while i was installing. Maybe watch the packaging though with the hitch-

Still working fine as expected and finish holding up well too-

by:

Excellent hitch and wire harness. Fit and worked just like the you tube video shows. One small problem; on both sides of the car, the bottom holes on the hitch were not aligned with the holes on the truck. They were off by 1/8” which did not allow for those screws to go in. The screws provided with the hitch and the middle screws on both sides went in correctly. After bolting the two screws on both sides instead of three with the 1/2 impact wrench and torquing them everything was solid and fine. Recommendation: if possible make the holes on the hitch a little larger to allow for adjustments / alignment where all screws can be fastened.

Sounds like your hitch may have been flexed in shipment, Barry. For a helpful article on how to fix this, see this link:

2005 Nissan Xterra

nstallation took approx. an hour and a half. Included draw bar install, and harness install under dash, pigtail routing and install, and checking the plug for proper operation.

The draw bar fit the vehicle (2005 Xterra), however the holes in the side plates did not all line up. The provided bolts were the wrong pitch. I was able to get the two rearward bolts on either side to go in and thread, the two forward most holes I was only able to get one side in. There was no way the last bolt was going to line up correctly. I tried to use the existing hardware, but those bolts were too short.

I ended up only using to four rearward bolts and getting them as tight as I could. It will have to do till I can source the correct hardware for the other bolt holes. And thinking about it I will only be able to do one side as the other side the drilled hole in the draw bar does not line up correctly, and I have no way to modify the hole position.

The difficulties that you are describing sounds like a common issue that our customers do have and we call it a flexed hitch. This is when the bolt holes do not line up with the holes on the vehicle, and the item is still usable, but the hitch does get slightly flexed in shipping. I have included a help article that explains the solutions to remedy this issue.

2012 Nissan Xterra

I've had the trailer hitch on my 2012 Xterra for about a year, and used it on a regular basis to pull motorcycle trailers. It has been absolutely flawless. This may seem like an odd thing to say about a trailer hitch, but I've seen friends who have had all sorts of problems with their hitches, from rattling to broken parts, and difficulty getting customer service from other companies. etrailer has a lot of videos to help you install your gear, if you're doing it yourself, and though I didn't have to call customer service, if they are anything like the ordering and install process support, I'm sure they're great. The videos even included how to put the relay harness in behind the kick panel. The videos are very thorough. In the case of an Xterra, you need to temporarily loosen the rear exhaust clamp so you can fit the hitch in. etrailer videos even include that, rather than just letting you try to figure it out.

The only thing I'd suggest, which has nothing to do with the quality of the trailer hitch, is to make sure you clean out the bolt holes for the hitch bolts with a wire brush. I made the mistake of not doing so for the first bolt, and it was a double-wrench situation to get the bolt in. I cleaned out the other holes before putting the bolts in, and it was a piece of cake.

Great job, ETrailer team, great product!

2008 Nissan Xterra

This product is garbage as well as the customer service at E trailer! None of the bolt holes lined up with this trailer hitch and it was about an inch away from the frame rail which is supposed to be basically touching. I called the trailer to send out a replacement and I was told that I have to drive to UPS to return the old one which is about an hour and a half round-trip for me and I am not eligible to have it picked up. Each trailer will never get any more business from me!!

It bolted in nicely, very pleased with it.

by:
2014 Nissan Xterra

I got this installed today in my 2014 Xterra. It's a well-made product, no doubt, but the installation was a little trickier than some of the videos made it out to be.

The challenge I think is that the hitch requires bolt tension to achieve 100% alignment with the existing holes in the frame. So when you first start to insert the bolts, you'll find that the holes in the hitch may be off just a bit from that perfect position where the bolts would slide right in.

SO heads-up: what worked for me was to install the two new bolts (left and right) first (make sure you dry-fit the frame nuts for these bolts before the hitch is in place, you need to make sure the bolts fit and do not bind). DO NOT tighten any more that 2-3 threads deep, you will need some play to get the other bolts in. Then, go and install the original four bolts the same way, just 2-3 threads deep. You might have to wiggle the hitch to get all six bolts engaged.. Only when you are sure you have all six bolts in will it be safe to go around and start tightening them.

Hope this helps someone. Good product, would buy it again. A heads-up about the tight tolerances would have made my life a little easier.

Absolutely zero problems with my hitch receiver. I have my bike rack on it every day for a year and have no issues at all, highly recommendable.

by:
2012 Nissan Xterra

One would think the "Drawtite" brand would mean quality. Two annoying things were wrong. The additional two bolts that were to finish the attachment were the wrong thread pitch. Two trips to the hardware store finally resulting in bolts that would thread into the frame. Who would know there are 3 thread pitches available for a 12 millimeter bolt? Also the holes were not aligned well and I ended up taking the whole thing to a U-Haul facility that had the equipment that would flex the hitch just enough to get all six bolts installed. What should take maybe an hour, tops, took all day. Note that this was for a new '14 Nissan Xterra. Beware folks.

by:

Product did not exactly match up to mounting holes! Very hard time to get it mounted. would NOT recommend this product as attention to detail is lacking in this regard. I am no novice when it comes to working under. I put a Curt trailor hitch on my wife car last fall and had no problems what so ever with the Curt. I should have stuck with Curt. I WILL KNOW WHICH ONE TO BUY IF I AM EVER IN THE MARKET FOR ANOTHER ONE . IT WILL NOT BE Draw-Tite.

by:

Super simple install - just get off 2 bolts on each side and and put them back on plus the 2 bolts included.

Note: For me, the 2 included bolts went in but they were very rough going...I eventually just used a little 12v impact gun for my tires so it was not too bad.

But this thing is rock solid and exactly what I need for my bike carrier.

by:
2013 Nissan Xterra

Products were delivered quick and packed very well (no shipping damage). Instructions were accurate and everything fit well and functioned properly. It took me about 25 minutes to install the hitch and another 15 to install the electrical hook-ups. I'm ready to pull my boat to the Lake!! Many Thanks.

2008 Nissan Xterra

hidden hitchThe hitch was as described and I installed it on my 08 Nissan Xterra. The only problem was a bent ear on the hitch where the extra bolt that they include was supposed to go. I went ahead and got the bolt started and was able to pull it into place with the bolt itself. I highly reccomend a good set of tools for this job as they bolts from the factory were very tight and all needed to be reinstalled tightly. Overall I am very satified with the hitch and the good price. Took longer then a half hour as was stated for installation. Total time for me about an hour. It would have helped to have someone to assist me with holding it in place until I got the bolts started.

I purchased this for my husband that acquired a pop-up camper trailer. He has installed the hitch without issues. Works and looks great. Thank you for the quick delivery.

Customer service agents were friendly, knowledgeab and helpful. The hitch arrived exactly as promised and instructions were easy to follow. We are very satisfied with the hitch - it is of excellent quality and we could not be more pleased with our entire experience. We would definitely use etrailer again and would recommend to others. Thank you!

My order for a hitch receiver was shipped within hours of ordering it, on a Saturday, no less, and arrived in great shape. It may be a while until I have time to install it on my XTerra so I'll have to post later about how that goes.

I am very impressed with the products I have received ! Easy installation ! Also, even though the hitch was not in stock, the team went above and beyond to get mine directly from the dealer !!!!! I commend Shery and George on their efforts !! Thank you very much and hope to deal with you all again !!!!!

Extremely satisfied with this hitch. It is very well built and installation was simple and quick. Fit and finish are perfect. Many thanks to etrailer.com for excellent service and fast shipping.

by:

A quality hitch with a great finish. The hitch fit perfectly. The whole installation took 30 minutes, but it would have been tough without an impact to brake the bumper bolts loose. Once installed it looks GREAT!

by:
2008 Nissan Xterra

The product arrived on schedule and with the help of the videos which were on the company's website it was fairly easy to install. There was some difficulty getting all the bolt holes to line up that took a little bit of patience.

by:
2011 Nissan Xterra

The product was of top quality and was what I expected. Installation took a bit longer than expected. The third hole that the bolts were supplied for were off a bit had to enlarge the hole a bit. Over all I am very happy with the product.

Looks clean and flush to the Xterra allows the drop down spare to still be underneath. Great product for a great price!

  • Why Wont the Magnaflow CatBack # MF15583 fit Nissan Xterras with Factory Hitch
I checked with Magnaflow and the issue is that the routing of the exhaust pipes that are in the Magnaflow Catback kit # MF15583 would interfere with the factory hitch of the 2010-2013 Nissan Xterras. I am sure that if you took the # MF15583 to a qualified muffler shop they would be able to come up with a way to route the exhaust around the hitch so that it wouldn't interfere.
