Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

1999 Chevrolet Colorado

I bought this because in order to move from Colorado to New orleans. Towed a 5×8 uhaul loaded down with a large toolbox full of tools and much more. Before my next use, I will probably crawl under and check the bolts. See if they need tightened but I doubt it. Overall great hitch set up!

by:
2002 Dodge Durango

This product probably would have worked well if it hadn't failed on its first use. As a result of the boat being hit by a car in traffic one of the 4 bults sheered right through the frame and tilted the hitch. As a result the trailer detached and smashed into my car. You probably shouldn't have asked for my review.

by:

A bit tough to install, but I believe that was because of where I was working. I haven't had an issue with the hitch receiver at all.

Darrell

4/18/2023

I have not had an issue even after many trips pulling an enclosed trailer or a open utility trailer.

by:

Took an hour to install, including the wiring harness. Harness needs to be ordered seperately. Four bolts total, I was unable to squeeze the square bracket into the frame on the front passenger side, I opted to just chuck it in the trash, the bolt was tight enought without it. Overall easy install, a little tricky by myself but doable. Saved about 300 dollars doing this myself so it was well worth it.

2003 Dodge Durango

One of the holes didn’t lineup but it was an easy fix don’t panic. I noticed when I open the box, one side look like it had been dropped . I connect the three bolts that lined up properly fairly then took the car jack and board under and with just few simple turns opening the jack, It’s simply went back to its original form and there we go!

by:
2002 Dodge Durango

Was not hard to install. Did the job by myself no jacks in my drive way. Did three bolts then got a pipe clamp to pull bracket in line with fourth hole so bolt could line up with frame. Seems like a real solid hitch.

2003 Dodge Durango

I just installed this on my 03 durango last nite. Just me and my trusty jack to help lift. The wiring was made simple and easy. I recommend this product highly. Very well made, and shipping was first class. Thank you so much.

by:

The is a great fit and its nice having the frame hidden behind the bumper. A lil tough getting 1 of the bolts in, only off by about 1/4 inch. But a lil persuasion is all it took. Definitely recommend getting the spare tire out the way.

by:

Just got this in today. I grabbed the box off the porch and there was a corner of the box open. When I opened the box, the hardware was missing and the hitch looked like it was used. Paint was chipped. A a lot of stuff and dings. There was nothing to protest it in the box. Called and they are sending out the hardware asap. I don’t really care about the looks but it’s a little disappointing that it wasn’t protected better for shipping. You that kind of money and it arrived looking like this.

by:

“Better than expected for the price.”

Purchased
this particular receiver because it matched the tow limits of the vehicle. Boxed well, but poorly treated by UPS I assume. (Items in order were where they were originally packaged, on receiver and box within box containing other ordered items) however hitch had several scrapes from portions of box that showed damage. Maybe bubble-wrap mount-point-tips? Heft feels about average, Fit and finish of receiver acceptable but components still have many sharp or “Hard” edges, so be careful when handling. If the welds are done in a jig by a real person, they could have done a better job, but are more then structurally sound. Would trust it to it’s rated capacity plus 3-5% but not a receiver i’d trust for more then it’s advertised as.(we know people will put on “one or two more things” Don’t do that, and I feel like at it’s listed capability, to use it at full weight you’d need to have an awareness of your load / CG better then your average Joe.) Over-all happy with my purchase given the shipping speed and price point. Will update with photos once installed.

still holding up and working great . I would recommend etrailer and each product i have purchased .

by:

It works great, I tow a lot of stuff from boats to campers etc. Putting it on was definitely a little rough, somewhat because it was so dirty under the truck so it kept falling in my face. I did have a hard time lining up the bolt holes but I don't think that's related to the hitch itself and more to do with the truck being 20 years old. I would definitely buy again though.

2000 Dodge Durango

Thier customer service gives etrailer this excellent review. I ordered a Draw-tite hitch (free shipping) for my Durango. The frame rail holes were off 2 inches and 1 on the other side. I called etrailer on Sat and they shipped another. It arrived Friday and the fit and finish was excellent. Thirty minute installation after a practice round.
etrailer emailed a prepaid shipping labe.l I dropped off the defective hitch today at the UPS store.

Thanks guys

I am very happy with my purchase from etrailer.com. My hitch arrived promptly and the installation took me about an hour because I also added the wiring harness. The installation videos were very helpful and they are the main reason why I bought my products from this site. I would highly recommend them!

This is the first hitch I've ever installed. I completed both the hitch and wiring in 75 minutes by myself. Jack stands made it easier to install once the hitch is lined up so you don't struggle to hold it in place while bolting it to the frame.

Overall, I couldn't be more please with the experience. The on-line videos were a great help to familiarize yourself with the procedure ; they are a MUST watch!

I'll be sending anyone who is looking for this type of product here!

Thanks to etrailer.com for a great product!

2001 Dodge Durango

the hitch looks beautiful on my vehicle. Was not easy to attach though, it should include in the instructions to lower and remove the spare tire. then getting the spare back in place is not easy either. The box the hitch came in did have some drop damage on it and there should have been another brace put between the ends of the hitch; there was some minor inward bending that made it more difficult to install. and when installing this product you need open-end wrentches and/or deep well sockets

by:
2001 Dodge Durango

Great products, easy installation.

by:

The hitch fit perfectly but that was not the point. Etrailer did not have the hitch in stock. Instead of a computer generated email, I received an phone call followed up by a personal email. Then another email when the product was being delivered. Customer service is everything when you can buy a product anywhere. Thank you Etrailer!!!

2000 Dodge Durango

Hitch was used to replace a 20yr old rusted hitch on my 2000 Dodge Durango and it bolted right up and fit perfectly. Receiver comes out nicely right below the bumper. Would highly recommend for someone that is on the fence about buying one!

by:
2003 Dodge Durango

Just received my hitch system.
Initial
observations are that it is very well made.
Trailer hitch fit into place with no problem and installation was complete in an hour.

by:

Products and company representatives that are true to there word are difficult to come. Thank you, Etrailer, for making this purchase and merchandise a terrific experience. And the trailer hitch vehicle attachment is rock solid!!

Sincerely,

Chad Soileau

by:

Came with everything needed to bolt directly on. I've already pulled a vehicle dolly with it. So far, so good. Make sure you don't have over sized tires. It barely fits with the stock tires.

Pulled loaded 12 trailers and its holing up just fine.

I can't say enough about how pleased I am with this product. Rugged and VERY well built. EASY, yep that's right, EASY to install.

Looking to many years of use, with confidence in the integrity of this hitch.

Your company exemplifies the customer focused business philosophy that I truly appreciate.

Dodge Durango

When on like is was made for my Dodge Durango. It really is heavy duty. I used 2 wood clamps to hold it in place till I started the washers and nuts. I installed the hitch by myself. The wiring harness was even easier.

by:

Great product and easy to install no issues at all

  • Why Do Weight Distribution System Sometimes Increase Towing Capacity
Weight distribution systems can offer a slightly higher towing capacity because they redistribute some of the hitch weight up to the front axle of the tow vehicle in the way they leverage the weight of the trailer forward on the vehicle. That is why you'll sometimes see higher capacities when used with a WD system. Often times if the hitch is WD approved the capacities will be higher when used with one. That said, in some cases (rarely) you can use a WD system but the manufacturer of the...

The hardware for this hitch is 1/2-13 x 1.75 GR5 carriage bolts. 1/4 x 1-1/2 x 2 block conical toothed washer nut. And also 1/2-13 x 1.50 GR5 bolt and nut with carriage bolt spacer blocks. • Available Hitch and Wiring for 2003 Dodge Durango
The Hidden Hitch 87522 is no longer available because that brand name has been discontinued, but the identical hitch under the Draw-Tite brand name, made by the same parent company (Horizon Global) is available. That hitch is Draw-Tite part # 75081 and it is confirmed to fit on the 2003 Dodge Durango. We also have the correct 4-pole wiring harness, part # 118334, installation of which is shown in the linked video.

  • Installation of Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2002 Dodge Durango without the Factory Tow Package
Since your 2002 Dodge Durango doesn't have the factory tow package the trailer wiring harnesses install by plugging in behind both tail lights. I recommend the Tekonsha, part # 118334 for a quality 4-way connector. I've linked a video showing the install on a 2003 that's the same process as yours. The connectors that plug in under the Durango's bumper are for vehicles equipped with the tow package. If you also need a trailer hitch receier the Draw-Tite, part # 75081, is a confirmed fit.

You'd want to start with a hitch confirmed to fit like the Draw Tite part # 75081 which has more than enough capacity. For trailer wiring you then would want the part # 118334 which is confirmed as a fit. Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. • Will Trailer Hitch from 2002 Dodge Durango Fit a 1994 Subaru Legacy
The Hidden Hitch that was available for the 2002 Dodge Durango was part 87522 and has been replaced by the Draw-Tite # 75081. The Curt # C12270 is designed for the 1994 Subaru Legacyis a Class II hitch. Trailer hitch receivers are specifically designed to fit the vehicles they're made for and rarely fit another vehicle unless it's on the same frame. The Durango and Legacy have extremely different designs so the hitches will not transfer from one vehicle to another.

  • Is Loctite Suggested When Installing Trailer Hitch Receiver
When installing a trailer hitch receiver like # 75081 we do not suggest using Loctite on the bolts and nuts because the manufacturer doesn't. It isn't a bad idea in most cases to use # LT37643 because it will keep the hardware tight. The only situation where I wouldn't recommend it is when you have weld nuts in the frame, which isn't an issue with this hitch.

  • Recommended Hitch and Wiring for 2000 Dodge Durango
The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75081 you purchased is the one I would recommend. This is the only option that has a concealed cross tube which gives it a cleaner look and better clearance. However, since it sounds like you do not have factory trailer wiring you will want the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118334 instead of the # 118381.
