Trailer hitches are custom fit and vehicle specific so you would not be able to modify or adapt a hitch to fit a vehicle it was not designed for and have it still be safe for use. You would want to stick with the appropriate hitch for the vehicle.
You could either leave the hitch on the Dodge Durango or remove the hitch and sell it to offset the cost of the Ford Ranger hitch. Draw-Tite hitch # 75081 fits the 1998 to 2003 Dodge Durango.
For a 2002 Ford Ranger you can use # 75082 that you have referenced. I have linked a video showing installation of this hitch for you. If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included to the right that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
And if the truck does not already have a trailer connector you can use # 118344 to add a 4-Way. I have linked the installation instructions for you.
