Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Only 4 stars as one bolt hole didn't line up. Not sure if Draw-Tite or Ford was the issue. The Draw-Tight I put on my 2009 years ago went on perfectly.

It is possible that the hitch side bracket was flexed out of alignment. It can happen while in transit to you or to us. We do have a FAQ that helps show you the best way to flex it back.

by:

Hitch was too large and too heavy for the box it was shipped in. Some metal ends were protruding from the box and some paint was scuffed off.
I had my mechanic do the install on my 2017 Ford Escape. End result was good and it took him 1.5 hours to install with vehicle on his lift. He said it was a little challenging.

by:

It was very easy to install and it worked fine. Unfortunately, we sold the vehicle since then. But I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another from you folks.

by:

I installed it myself you really need 2 people to put it in place I had to use 2 scissor jack to be able to put it in place both sides have to go up at the same time I didn't use the instruction that was sent with it instead I watched the video that etrailer has on there website I have not installed the light kit yet

by:

I have owned this for a year and it has worked great so far. Installation was a little complicated - recommend having a mechanic help you. Other than that, I would say it was worth the buy.

I ordered this on Tues. and today is Thurs. and the trailer hitch is sitting in my garage!!! The price was much cheaper than the dealership and was the same item. Can not thank you enough for such awesome service!

The installation was a huge issue since the frame was slightly bent so things didnt match up - so what should have been an easy installation was a mess - thankfully my husband knows how to fix things and managed to get it on after several tries! But now that its one it has been great!!

by:
2017 Ford Escape

Etrailer's customer service was outstanding! The hardware kit didn't have the fish wire and they promptly sent those to me. Etrailer's video made the installation so much easier. I didn't put the Escape on a lift. Instead, jacked up the rear of the car for the installation. Doesn't look the the hitch will slide in over the muffler without lifting the rear of the car. Would also recommend having a friend available for about 5 minutes just to get the hitch over the muffler. Other than that, it's a one person job! Holes aligned very nicely except for one muffler hangar bolt but a little grinding took care of that. Hitch is well made!

by:

we found on our install the 3 5/16" washers in line 8 of instructions on both sides were not needed, we put them in and the muffler bracket holes did not line up to get the bolts in and we had it snugged all the way to the rear, thats on the drivers side, took both side washers out and everything fit fine. sorry no pictures

2015 Ford Escape Titanium.
The first
unit shipped was a full inch too short, width wise(39.5" Frame is 40.5"). But after a very helpful discussion with Teresa in customer service, a new unit was shipped out and a prepaid label mailed. When the new unit showed up it fit perfectly. Tucked under the rear valance and fit right around the muffler and brackets. All the needed hardware was included. Only one slight modification to the frame was needed, just to enlarge the hole enough for the mounting bolt to fit into the frame. Not said in the directions but I recommend spraying the area with undercoating after the mod to prevent rust.
Overall good product and GREAT customer service.

2014 Ford Escape

I use the hitch not for towing but only to attach my bicycle rack to my Ford Escape, and it has performed well. I read through the installation instructions and decided, at my age of 80, to let my auto mechanic perform the installation. He said it was a bit tricky getting it positioned above the exhaust pipes -- not as easy as the instructions described -- but that the instructions were more complete than with many other similar products. I consider the product to be a good value for the money.

by:

Order came very quickly. Comes with all the hardware you need and the cool fish wires that really speed up the install. Took about 3 hours to install.

by:

Our E Trailer hitch fit perfectly, install time was in line with instruction video (27 minutes) Do have a problem now, my wife believes I am a very good mechanic and has made a long list of things to do. My suggestion to other men would be take a nap under the car or you may also find a long list of things to do. Very Happy with our new hitch and will recommend your products to others.

by:

Very cleverly designed. Everything you need is right in the box. However, don't be fooled into thinking this is an easy install. The video makes it look very easy because these guys have done a million of these. Plus, they have the right tools and the advantage of being able to work under a lift. I consider myself pretty handy, but it took me a good four hours to install this hitch. It took another four hours to run all the wiring and test everything before all was said and done. Give yourself lots of time and refer frequently to the videos. And by the way, kudos to etrailer.com for having such excellent support, especially in the area of instructional videos.

by:

Nice product. The only problem I had was the hole in my bumper mount on drivers side wasn't lined up So was hard to get bolt through. Not a problem with the hitch but a manufacturer defect. Therefore took about an hour and 1/2 to install The online video was very helpful much easier than the printed instructions. Very happy with the hitch. mostly hidden. Am now in the market for a bike rack and will be looking at your racks as well. Thanks very much Ron

2014 Ford Escape

My son and I (both mechanical hands on engineers) installed the trailer hitch last night on my wife's Escape. It took 2 hours. Very heavy to hold up in place. No problems but definitely not for a novice. Everything fit well and we are satisfied with the end product. Really needs better instructions and pictures.

by:

Just as with the wiring harness I used in conjunction with this installation I have been able to put them from my mind. They have operated optimally since installation. The installation was performed without difficulty by my son and grandson.

by:

Great hitch, easy to install. Tow snow mobile trailer and land scape trailer easily, also great for bike rack...

by:

I went with this model so it was a hidden and up off the road as possible. Took a little more time to install, but the results were worth it. It is a little on the heavy side, but then it has a heavy job to do. I am 71 years old and completed the job myself in about 3 hours with the help of a floor jack.

by:

Hitch worked and installed as it was shown to. No problems. The wiring harness was a little tougher but we got it eventually.

by:
2015 Ford Escape

Hitch is of good quality, solid construction. Packaging is a little iffy (at best). Hitch flange punched through box and was being dragged around by ups. Lots of damage to powder coat. Components inside were slightly beat up and blemished. Cosmetic deficiencies but still, I should be the one who gets to tear it up ;)

by:

Product appears to be fine even though I have not installed it yet. However your packaging needs improvement. When it appeared at my door the box was broken in several places and the hardware was spilling out on the ground. I was able to gather it up and did an inventory. Fortunately most of the parts were there except for a few nut and washers which I had on the shelf. All is well. Thanks. RJH

2014 Ford Escape

Very well pleased with product and ease of installation. Arrived well ahead of estimated date. We can now use our bike carrier and pull our small boat. Very pleased to be able to enjoy these activities.

by:
Pontiac Trans Sport Van

Easy ordering and super fast shipping, however packaging leaves a lot to be desired. The box fell apart during transport leaving the hitch already scratched and injuring my hand and arm when I picked it up and did not see that it had fallen through and ripped the box.

by:

The installation process was a bit of a challenge, but I watched the video and got through it without a problem. I loved the fact that other than the receiver itself everything was tucked away and virtually invisible.

by:
2014 Ford Escape

Good product. Fit was perfect. Installation video was accurate, no surprises during the install.

The product arrived in a very timely manner. I can think of no reason why you should not buy from etrailer.

  • Recommended Cargo Carrier and Hitch that Wont Interfere with Liftgate Sensors of 2014 Ford Escape
We have several hitches compatible with your 2014 Escape Titanium. There are Class III hitches with the 2 inch receiver opening, the Draw-Tite # 75758. This hitch will block the hands-free liftgate sensors somewhat, they will only be functional in the areas around the exhaust pipes as shown in the diagram I provided. If you decide to go with a 2 inch hitch, I'd recommend the Curt # C18151 folding cargo carrier. The carrier basket measures 24x60, and the basket can fold up against the rear...

  • Class II Trailer Hitch for 2014 Ford Escape Titanium That Wont Interfere w/ Hands Free Liftgate
The Draw-Tite Class II trailer hitch receiver, part # 36529 meets the requirements you listed. From the rear, the only portion of the hitch that's visible would be the receiver tube and the hoops for the safety chains. The crossbar would be tucked behind the bumper. The hitch was specifically designed so it wouldn't interfere with the hands-free liftgate option. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most difficult, this installation is considered a 4. If you will be towing, you will also need the trailer wiring harness, part # 118566 and the appropriately-sized trailer ball, # 19256 for a 1-/78 inch ball or # 19258 for a 2 inch ball. Since you will only be using the trailer hitch to carry 2 bikes I recommend going with a Class II trailer hitch # 36529. I have linked a video showing installation of this trailer hitch for you. For a bike carrier we have numerous options that are compatible with the Class II hitch. The most popular carrier option for owners of the 2014 Ford Escape is the Swagman XTC-2, # S64670. this is a platform style bike carrier that holds 2 bikes by the wheels and center of the frame. • Will the Hands Free Liftgate Work with the Draw-Tite Hitch Part # 36529 on a 2018 Ford Escape
The hands free liftgate sensor on your 2018 Ford Escape will NOT need to be relocated to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 36529. Now with that being said, you will have to place your foot on either side of the receiver tube to activate the gate but that is it and there will be no other issues. This hitch installs using pre-drilled holes in the frame rail and will be an excellent option for you. I have attached a sample install video for you as well.

Removing the heatshield to install a hitch is a fairly common requirement. You would not see any water retention or anything like that. This is a Class III hitch that would give you more capacity and would be compatible with more hitch accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers than a Class II like the part # 36529.
