Trailer Hitch and 2-Bike Carrier Recommendation for a 2014 Ford Escape

looking for a trailer hitch for a 2014 ford escape. It will only be used for a bike rack - probably 2 bikes. I have no idea what I need

Since you will only be using the trailer hitch to carry 2 bikes I recommend going with a Class II trailer hitch # 36529. I have linked a video showing installation of this trailer hitch for you.
For a bike carrier we have numerous options that are compatible with the Class II hitch. The most popular carrier option for owners of the 2014 Ford Escape is the Swagman XTC-2, # S64670. this is a platform style bike carrier that holds 2 bikes by the wheels and center of the frame. I have linked a video review of this carrier for you.
If you like the hanging racks then Escape owners gravitate towards the Thule Camber, # TH9058. It has folding arms and a tilting mast. I have linked a video review of this carrier as well.
For the hanging bike rack or if loading bikes with step-through frames on the Swagman XTC-2, (any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would)) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wife's bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my son's bike at all. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
